On the afternoon of November 11, Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Ngoc Chau chaired a reception and working session with the Kingdom of the Netherlands delegation led by Ms. Aukje de Vries, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of the Netherlands, to discuss cooperation in seaport development in Hai Phong.
Attending the meeting were Mr. Kees van Baar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam; Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Kien - Head of the City Economic Zone Management Board; together with representatives of leaders of relevant departments and branches; businesses, seaport and logistics service business associations of Hai Phong and the Netherlands.
At the meeting, Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Ngoc Chau expressed his pleasure to welcome Minister Aukje de Vries, Ambassador Kees van Baar and the Dutch delegation to visit and work in Hai Phong. Chairman of the City People's Committee affirmed that the Netherlands is one of the important European partners of Vietnam in general and Hai Phong in particular. Currently, in the city there are 16 Dutch foreign direct investment projects with a total investment capital of about 361 million USD. In recent times, Hai Phong and the Netherlands have had many in-depth working sessions, aiming for strategic cooperation in the fields of seaports and logistics.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee also introduced to the Working Group the outstanding results in Hai Phong's socio-economic development over the past time, along with the city's potentials and advantages in many fields, especially urban development planning and seaport infrastructure. At the same time, it was emphasized that Hai Phong owns a modern and synchronous transportation system, bridges and ports, and is the only locality with all types of transportation. The city aims to become a major seaport center in the region and the world, developing based on three main pillars: modern seaport and logistics services; green, smart, high-tech industry; and international cruise center.
According to the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system for the period 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, Hai Phong seaport belongs to the number 1 seaport group and is one of two special seaports in the country. Hai Phong's two main gateway port clusters include Lach Huyen associated with Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone and Nam Do Son associated with the Southern Coastal Economic Zone, which are oriented to develop into international transshipment ports, receiving large tonnage ships, applying digital technology, and developing logistics services, free trade and international goods transshipment.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee also informed the Working Group about the logistics system, linked infrastructure and specific mechanisms and preferential policies to attract investment of the city; Applying technology and training logistics human resources in Hai Phong in the future. Hai Phong wants to have sustainable infrastructure and smart logistics solutions, attracting investment in areas that are being prioritized by the city to contribute to the city's sustainable development.
Chairman of the City People's Committee emphasized that this meeting is an important opportunity for the two sides to directly exchange vision, orientation and experience in developing the seaport and logistics system... in the coming time. Thereby contributing to promoting cooperation and attracting investment in effective projects, especially in areas the city is interested in attracting and promoting development. The city is committed to always accompanying, supporting and creating favorable conditions for Dutch businesses to invest and develop sustainably in Hai Phong. The Chairman of the City People's Committee also hoped that the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam would continue to be an important bridge and information channel, contributing to connecting and attracting Dutch business investment to Hai Phong.
Sincerely thanking the city leaders for the respectful welcome, Ms. Aukje de Vries, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of the Netherlands, expressed her good impression of Hai Phong's strong socio-economic development in recent times, especially in the seaport sector. Minister Aukje de Vries believes in the prospect of open cooperation between Vietnamese businesses in general and Hai Phong businesses in particular and Dutch businesses in the fields of maritime, seaports, aviation and logistics, shipbuilding, especially in the context that both sides aim to develop green and sustainable infrastructure.
Also at the meeting, representatives of a number of Dutch businesses introduced their industries, fields, and operating models. A number of units and businesses from Hai Phong and the Netherlands exchanged opportunities and challenges in Hai Phong's development strategy in planning and operating the seaport system and logistics services, shipping and shipbuilding fields and proposed solutions and opportunities for cooperation./.
