Hai Phong attracts large British businesses to invest in renewable energy in Nam Dinh Vu industrial park, towards a green, sustainable economy [...]

On the morning of June 29, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board coordinated with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Sao Do Investment Group Joint Stock Company to organize a seminar and investment promotion "Renewable energy in sustainable industrial parks".

Here, Shire Oak International Group, Sao Do Investment Group Joint Stock Company and Nam Dinh Vu Electricity Trading Joint Stock Company (NDVESCO) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on renewable energy investment in Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Park; At the same time, commitment to green development orientation in this industrial park between Sao Do Company and investors.
This cooperation is to develop a rooftop solar power renewable energy project, providing clean energy sources, improving the environment, enhancing brand image and creating conditions for investors to use clean energy sources.
Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Park is one of the key projects of Sao Do Group in Hai Phong City, with a scale of nearly 1,330 hectares in the Dinh Vu-Cat Hai Economic Zone. Currently, this industrial park has completed infrastructure construction of about 600 hectares, attracting more than 40 businesses, with a total investment of billions of dollars from FDI enterprises.

According to General Director of Sao Do Group Joint Stock Company Nguyen Thanh Phuong, in 2022, Sao Do Company plans to develop the non-tariff zone and Nam Dinh Vu I towards a green, environmentally friendly industrial park. To move towards a green, environmentally friendly industrial park, this company has set aside a lot of land fund to prioritize planting trees and developing landscapes with an area of 350 hectares for trees and lakes.
“In addition, in attracting investment, Sao Do also chooses businesses with low emissions, less labor and resource intensive, prioritizing high-tech businesses and using renewable energy", said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong.
It is known that Shire Oak International is an investor developing large-scale renewable energy projects in developing countries and emerging economies, having developed many renewable energy projects worldwide with a value of up to 2 billion USD. In Vietnam, this group is developing a large portfolio of solar energy projects across the country.
By cooperating with businesses and educational institutions across the region, Shire Oak International Group is currently implementing the construction of a rooftop solar power system with a capacity of up to 650MW with an investment capital worth up to 450 million USD.
Talking with Economic & Urban reporters, Mr. Mark Shorrock, Chairman of Shire Oak International Group, said that European countries have now set a goal that by 2030, 100% of businesses' products must be produced with renewable energy. That is an inevitable trend, so companies need to change to meet the requirements of environmental protection and combating climate change.

Talking about the reasons for investing in the field of renewable energy, rooftop solar power in Hai Phong City, Mr. Mark Shorrock shared that the UK is a country with many strengths and experience in developing renewable energy. Currently, many British investors and businesses are interested in new economies with stable and sustainable growth like Vietnam to invest in renewable energy development.
“Even though Hai Phong in the North of Vietnam has a less sunny season than the South, Shire Oak International still invests because this city has great potential to develop renewable energy such as solar power, wind power, even wave and tidal power... Furthermore, Hai Phong attracts many FDI enterprises from Japan and Korea... so the market is open and vibrant", said Mr. Mark Shorrock.
Currently, renewable energy is a mandatory requirement of the energy industry in Vietnam as well as in the world to build a green, sustainable economy and fight climate change. At the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), to which Vietnam is strongly committed, the goal of achieving net emissions (the amount of toxic emissions emitted into the environment) is zero by the middle of this century.
In recent years, Hai Phong City has increasingly focused on developing the field of renewable energy to contribute to environmental protection, helping the industry raise a total investment capital of more than 22 billion USD. The Non-Tariff Zone and Nam Dinh Vu I Industrial Park alone have attracted 48 projects with a total investment capital of 1.8 billion USD. In the period 2021-2025, it is expected to establish 10-12 new industrial parks with an area of nearly 6,000 hectares.
