On the afternoon of July 24, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Hoang Minh Cuong chaired a working session with the Delegation of Department-level and equivalent officials of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, led by comrade Mayfong Maxay - Party member, Principal of the University of Science and Health (Laos Ministry of Health).
Joining the delegation were comrade Latana Sihalaj - Deputy Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Vietnam; Representative of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Central Organizing Committee. On the city side, attending the meeting were leaders of relevant departments, branches and units.
Speaking at the reception, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Hoang Minh Cuong expressed his pleasure to welcome the Lao People's Revolutionary Party's delegation to visit and work in Hai Phong. The Vice President affirmed that the traditional, loyal and pure relationship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos is an invaluable asset, built and nurtured through many generations of leaders and people of the two countries, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.
Vice Chairman Hoang Minh Cuong said that in recent times, Hai Phong city has always been interested in promoting friendly cooperation with Lao localities, especially Vientiane and Udomsay provinces, through many delegation exchange activities, people-to-people friendly exchanges and cooperation in the field of education and training. The city has received and trained hundreds of Lao students at higher education institutions, contributing to building high-quality human resources for the neighboring country and tightening the cooperative relationship between the two sides.
Informing the Working Group, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee said: from July 1, 2025, Hai Phong city (old) and Hai Duong province have officially merged, taking the name Hai Phong city. After the merger, the city has 114 commune-level administrative units, a natural area of nearly 3,200 km², a population of nearly 4.7 million people, with a combined GRDP ranking third in the country, just behind City. Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi. The merger opens up great opportunities to form a new, strong growth pole in the Red River Delta, based on the combination of industrial and agricultural potential and the international seaport system.
