The city currently has 6 city-level solid waste treatment zones (currently 2 projects have been put into operation, Dinh Vu treatment zone and Trang Cat treatment zone) and 8 district-level treatment zones. A number of city and district level treatment zones are in the process of being implemented, specifically as follows:
* City-level treatment area:
- Gia Minh solid waste treatment area in Thuy Nguyen district has a planned scale of 35 hectares with the function of treating domestic solid waste and medical solid waste. The project has been approved by the City People's Committee with detailed planning at a scale of 1/500 and has been implemented under ODA loans since 2004, and is currently undergoing site clearance. Construction progress: from November 2015, expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
- Trang Cat solid waste treatment area: To ensure environmental sanitation in the city, the Urban Development Construction Management Board has prepared a Report proposing investment policies for a construction waste treatment area in the city with a scale of 5 hectares (Official Dispatch No. 5348/UBND-XD dated August 24, 2017 of the City People's Committee).
- Dinh Vu solid waste treatment area: The Urban Development Construction Management Board has prepared a Report proposing investment policies for the Dinh Vu landfill expansion project with a scale of 5 hectares, with the purpose of receiving garbage from 2 districts of Do Son and Duong Kinh (Official Dispatch No. 6919/UBND-XD dated August 24, 2017 of the City People's Committee).
- Quang Trung - Quang Hung solid waste treatment area in Quang Trung and Quang Hung communes, An Lao district has a scale of 4 hectares with the function of treating hazardous industrial solid waste. The project was approved by the City People's Committee for detailed planning in 2013 and granted an Investment Certificate in 2014.
- Dong Van solid waste treatment area in Dai Ban commune, An Duong district has a scale of 20 hectares to 30 hectares with the function of treating domestic solid waste and industrial solid waste.
- An Son solid waste treatment area in Lai Xuan commune, Thuy Nguyen district (backup) with the function of treating domestic solid waste, industrial solid waste, and hazardous solid waste.
* District level treatment area:
- Thuy Nguyen district: Minh Tan solid waste treatment area in Minh Tan commune has a scale of 16 hectares, with the function of treating domestic solid waste and industrial solid waste. The project has completed procedures for planning, investment, land and environment and is in operation.
- Vinh Bao district: Centralized waste treatment area of Vinh Bao district (area 6 hectares) at Km 22+600 beach outside the right dyke of Thai Binh river, Tran Duong commune (City People's Committee agreed to the construction policy in Document No. 1659/UBND -MT dated April 4, 2018).
- Cat Hai district: Ang Cha Cha solid waste treatment area in Cat Ba town has an area of 4 hectares with the function of treating domestic solid waste. The project has completed planning procedures and is implementing investment, land and environmental procedures.
- Tien Lang district: Cap Tien solid waste treatment area in Cap Tien commune has a scale of 30 hectares, with the function of treating domestic solid waste. Tien Lang District People's Committee has submitted a report proposing investment policies to the Department of Finance for appraisal for approval by the City People's Committee. The project is invested by a joint venture of Thanh Vinh Tourism Trading Joint Stock Company and Vinh Hoa Green Environment Equipment Manufacturing Company (Solid waste treatment project without burial using RE-CD technology - energy regeneration according to the clean development mechanism) with a capacity of 50 tons/day.
- An Lao District: Solid waste treatment area is planned in Ngoc Chu village - Truong Tho commune with a scale of 10 hectares.
- Kien Thuy district: Tan Trao solid waste treatment area in Tan Trao commune has a scale of 10 hectares with the function of treating domestic solid waste.
- Cat Hai district: Dong Bai solid waste treatment area, Cat Hai town, has an area of 5 hectares with the function of treating domestic solid waste.
- Bach Long Vy district: Bach Long Vy solid waste treatment area has an area of 0.6 hectares to treat domestic solid waste.
