(Haiphong.gov.vn) – Marking the 70th Anniversary of the City's Traditional Day of Foreign Affairs (March 25, 1955 - March 25, 2025), on the morning of March 25, the Department of Foreign Affairs organized a seminar "Local foreign affairs: Promoting the role in the city's socio-economic development".

At the discussion were: Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Hoang Minh Cuong; representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Danish Embassy; Relevant departments and branches along with representatives of Industrial Parks and foreign businesses in Hai Phong.

Over the past years, Hai Phong city has always promoted its position and role as a top locality contributing to the socio-economic development, national defense-security, and general foreign affairs of the country. The city's foreign affairs agency (the Department of Foreign Affairs was established in 1955, today is the Department of Foreign Affairs) has made many impressions during the process of construction and development and plays an increasingly important role in connecting the city with international partners.

Along with a visionary international cooperation strategy, the city has established and established trade connections with up to 130/204 countries and territories around the world, helping to realize the 17 free trade agreements Vietnam has signed; becoming the "base" of many large investors, deeply participating in the global value chain and actively contributing to the city's socio-economic development.
With the goal of using culture as a tool to establish, maintain and develop foreign relations, contributing to promoting Hai Phong's image and brand to the world. Typically, successfully campaigning for UNESCO to recognize Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago as a world natural heritage site not only honors the natural beauty and ecological value of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago but also opens up great opportunities for the conservation and green, sustainable development of the region, while promoting tourism and the city's economy.

People's foreign affairs work is widely deployed on the occasion of major events of the country, city and international partners. The city has friendly/twinning cooperative relationships with 26 localities from Japan, Korea, China, America, Australia, Russia, Laos, Cambodia...; Nearly 50 international organizations and foreign NGOs, participating in multilateral organizations such as CityNet, MBBW, TPO and Mayors for Peace. In the period 2021 - 2024, the promotion, mobilization and implementation of foreign non-governmental aid projects will be actively and proactively implemented with an estimated committed value of 24.5 million USD. The amount of remittances transferred through banks in the period 2021 - 2024 is estimated to reach 1.6 billion USD (an increase of 19.4% compared to the period 2016 - 2020).The result of the process of connecting and attracting resources from the Vietnamese community abroad, especially Hai Phong people, contributes to the city's socio-economic development.

Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Hoang Minh Cuong believes that the city will continue to receive support, companionship and close coordination from central agencies and international partners.
Speaking at the Dialogue, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Hoang Minh Cuong said: the city sets an economic growth rate of 12.5% in 2025 and strives to become a modern, smart, and sustainable industrial city of Southeast Asia's stature by 2030 with a sustainable development orientation, green economy, circular economy, and taking science and technology as a driving force. To achieve that goal, the city focuses on expanding economic space, promoting trade, improving efficiency and value in attracting ODA, FDI, cultural exchange, science and technology connection, people-to-people diplomacy and work for Vietnamese people abroad. The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee hopes that, with his enthusiasm and practical work experience, the delegates will discuss andexchange and share experiences and initiatives of foreign affairs to serve the city's socio-economic development. At the same time, we believe that the city will continue to receive support, companionship and close coordination from central agencies and international partners in the coming time.

At the seminar, there were 13 presentations from agencies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Departments, branches, the City Union of Science and Technology Associations, representatives of diplomatic agencies in Vietnam, domestic and foreign businesses on the topics: economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy and work of Vietnamese people abroad, contributing to creating a database to serve advisory work to improve the effectiveness of foreign affairs work in the next period. This is also an opportunity for units to discuss and exchange to help promote the role of local foreign affairs in socio-economic development, shape the opportunities and challenges posed in the new context, as well as propose solutions to optimize foreign affairs activities, bringing the city to the regional and international level.target to 2030, vision to 2050./.
