The city is connected to Hanoi by both National Highway 5 and Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway. National Highway No. 10 connects the City with the northern coastal provinces and Ha Long Bay - a World Heritage Site.
Ha Long - Hai Phong - Hanoi Expressway creates a strong regional connection in the Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh area, plays an important role in completing the route connecting the northern dynamic economic triangle (Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh), and at the same time completing the highway along the coastal axis of the Northern Coastal region.
Bach Dang Bridge was put into use in September 2018, connecting the Ha Long - Hai Phong - Hanoi expressway.
The coastal highway connecting Hai Phong and the northern coastal provinces has been approved for construction and some items are under construction.
