In 2018, Hai Phong attracted more than 2.5 billion USD of FDI capital, exceeding 100% of the year's plan and 2.7 times higher than in 2017. Meanwhile, Hai Duong attracted 605.1 million USD, an increase of 53.8% compared to 2017.

The number of projects with large capital increases such as Kefico Company Limited (an increase of 120 million USD), Messer Hai Phong Industrial Gas Company Limited Branch (an increase of 22.8 million USD) USD), Tinh Loi Garment Project (increased by 49.2 million USD)... Mr. Nguyen Dinh Kiem, Director of Hai Duong Department of Finance, said that the province will prioritize attracting investment from large economies with potential in capital and technology. Of the total 644.66 million USD of FDI capital that Hai Phong attracted in 2018, 375.32 million USD was invested in the processing and manufacturing industry, accounting for 58.22% of the total registered FDI capital.
The wholesale and retail sector ranked second, with total investment capital accounting for 31.11% of total registered FDI capital. The remaining fields only account for 10.67% of registered FDI capital with investment capital of about 69 million USD.
By the end of 2018, there were 12 countries and territories with investment projects in Hai Phong, of which Japan led with a total registered capital of 205.31 million USD, accounting for 31.85% of total investment capital; Korea ranked second, with 174.19 million USD, accounting for 27.02% of total investment capital...
