(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the afternoon of January 25, the City People's Committee held a technical traffic opening ceremony for the Rao Bridge project, this is an important event for the city to practically contribute to concretizing the orientation of developing synchronous, civilized and modern city traffic infrastructure. Comrade Le Van Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister attended and cut the traffic bandwidth for technical vehicles of the project.
Also attending the opening ceremony towards the Central Government were comrades: Nguyen Hoang Anh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Committee for Management of State Capital at Enterprises; Nguyen Cao Luc, Deputy Head of the Government Office; Nguyen Ngoc Dong, Deputy Minister of Transport; Tran Duy Dong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment.

Implemented since December 2020, after more than 13 months of construction efforts, overcoming difficulties due to the impact of the epidemic on the domestic economy, the project has completed the construction of main items, meeting design requirements and can be put into temporary operation to serve people's travel during the Lunar New Year of the Tiger in 2022.
With its scale and modern architecture in the shape of "Reaching wings of waves", the Rao bridge project has a symbolic meaning for Hai Phong's will and desire to rise and reach out in the direction of economic development associated with the sea. The project is expected to meet the city's development needs in the coming years, and at the same time be an architectural highlight, expanding the green landscape at the southern gateway of the "Red Poinciana City".
Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung spoke and issued an order to technically open the Rao bridge project.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung said that the old Rao bridge was built more than 40 years ago and completed in 1980. After the middle compartment collapsed in 1987, the bridge was renovated and completed in 1989. The bridge was built with a steel structure, 186 meters long, 11 meters wide. However, due to pressure on traffic and landscape in the city gateway area, the city decided to remove the old bridge to rebuild a new, more modern bridge.
On October 13, 2020, the Prime Minister, along with leaders of ministries, central branches and cities, pressed the start button on the construction of the Rao Bridge project with a total investment of more than 2,200 billion VND with 2 projects, of which: the bridge and intersection project is more than 1,500 billion VND and the Lach Tray Street sidewalk expansion project is more than 700 billion VND.
Chairman of the City People's Committee recognized and praised the Departments and branches, along with the districts of Ngo Quyen, Le Chan, Hai An and Duong Kinh; Investor; Contractors have made many efforts during site clearance and construction.
To soon complete the remaining items of the Project, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested that contractors continue to urgently speed up the construction progress, completing the bridge and intersection works in April 2022; Complete sidewalk renovation work in 2022; request Ngo Quyen and Le Chan districts to continue carrying out site clearance work, completed in June 2022. At the same time, request households on both sides of Lach Tray road to support and soon hand over land to the Investor to implement and complete the Project.

The Rao bridge and access road are built with permanent concrete structures and steel arches; Width 30.5m, nearly 3 times the old bridge. The bridge was built across the river and over Bui Vien street with a length of 456.5m. The southern path runs straight, connecting with Pham Van Dong street, with a length of 91m; On both sides of the bridge and adjacent to the river is a green park, planted with Royal poinciana and red rice flowers, which are traditional trees of Hai Phong city. The northern path and 2 roundabout branches are 466m long, of which the 2 roundabouts are 344m long, planted with trees with yellow leaves all year round, forming an anchor shape, which is a symbol of the port city of Hai Phong.
