(Haiphong.gov.vn) – On the afternoon of August 16, in Cat Hai island district, Phu Quoc Civil Construction Company Limited held the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Cat Ba Central Bay Tourist and Commercial Service Area Project.
Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the City People's Council Pham Van Lap, members of the Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee; leaders of departments, branches, branches and localities.

The project has an area of nearly 50 hectares and the total investment in infrastructure alone is over 2,100 billion VND. The project is expected to contribute to diversifying tourism products, supporting services, entertainment services, shopping centers, shopping malls, conferences... to attract tourists to the Cat Ba archipelago.

Speaking at the Project Groundbreaking Ceremony, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam emphasized that Hai Phong has a strategic location in the Northeast economic region and the whole country, is an important traffic hub, and is one of the major marine tourism centers with a system of tourist destinations, historical relics and famous landscapes such as Do Son and Cat Ba archipelago. Hai Phong orients the development of Cat Ba tourism in the direction of ensuring harmony with the natural landscape, exploiting the spatial landscape, water surface, and natural hills and mountains on the principle of minimizing interference with the natural terrain, aiming to build Cat Ba into a smart, ecological tourism island.
Cat Ba Central Bay tourist and commercial service area project is invested by Sun Group.
The Vice President said that currently the number of visitors to the island is increasing every year, contributing to promoting local economic development. Specifically, in 2022, Cat Ba tourism will welcome and serve about 2.3 million visitors; By 2023, we will welcome and serve more than 3 million visitors. In particular, on September 16, 2023, the Cat Ba archipelago area with a system of about 358 large and small limestone islands was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage, this is a place with a diverse marine ecosystem and unique terrain, and is one of the city's tourist attractions.

However, Cat Ba tourism is still seasonal, lacks high-end tourism products, facilities and service conditions do not meet the needs of tourists with high paying ability, and there are no amusement and entertainment areas to serve and attract tourists to Cat Ba tourism. Many new, modern projects have been invested in and built, but in reality they still do not meet the needs, infrastructure is still lacking, and there is a lack of worthy projects, especially high-end accommodation facilities, making Cat Ba archipelago tourism unable to develop to its full potential.

To promote investment attraction in developing infrastructure and facilities for tourism, with a focus on high-end resorts, entertainment, hotels, and restaurants meeting national and international standards, many resort real estate projects in Cat Ba are deployed to change the face of tourism in the island district, including the Cat Ba Central Bay tourist and commercial service area project.

The Cat Ba Central Bay tourist and commercial service area project reserves more than 60% of the area for public utility development. This is considered one of Vietnam's pioneering tourism projects towards zero carbon emissions and devoting a lot of area to the community. After the first cable car line Cat Hai - Phu Long was completed, Sun Group continued to build a new cable car line Phu Long - Cat Ba, creating a cable car system connecting directly from Cat Hai island to Cat Ba town center. People and tourists will easily move from Hai Phong city straight to the center of Cat Ba island by cable car, quickly and conveniently and minimizing emissions into the environment. In addition, the Project Area also includes a large-scale inland waterway wharf, helping tourists cCan be easily accessed by sea from Hai Phong city or Cat Hai cable car station./.
