According to Mr. Phil Hogan's assessment, the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will bring great opportunities for both Vietnamese and European manufacturers in finding growing markets for high-quality agricultural products of both sides in the near future.
Mr. Phil Hogan said that through surveys and exchanges with consumers, European businesses believe that Vietnamese consumers will have a positive impression with the quality and diversity of their products, because EU products meet the highest quality standards for food in the world, including quality meat, dairy, and fruit products recognized for geographical indications.
On the contrary, Mr. Phil Hogan said that Vietnamese businesses can also cooperate with European businesses to increase the supply of strong agricultural products such as pepper, cashew, coffee... to more than 500 million EU consumers.
However, Vietnamese businesses need to strictly comply with criteria related to product quality because the top priority in EU countries is food safety. Food safety regulations will become increasingly strict.
According to Mr. Hogan, during the meeting in Hanoi, the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also agreed to soon send a delegation to Belgium to work. Specifically, the two sides will agree to remove many technical barriers in agricultural products. After this meeting, Vietnamese businesses will have more opportunities to access the European market as soon as EVFTA takes effect.
Shared at the press conference, many dairy businesses from the EU said they were excited to participate in the Vietnamese dairy market and expected to sell high-quality dairy products to Vietnamese consumers. According to assessments of businesses, this product is having quite impressive growth, about 40% last year and is forecast to continue to maintain stable growth in the near future.
Like dairy businesses, Mr. Paul Lopez, Chairman of the Association of Meat and Poultry Processing and Poultry Business in EU countries, said that businesses belonging to the association highly appreciate the Vietnamese market and want to build cooperative relationships in Vietnam step by step, thereby promoting the consumption of agricultural products from both sides not only in Vietnam but also expanding to Southeast Asia.
European businesses believe that, with a population of over 93 million people and people's increasing income, political and economic stability and favorable geographical location, will help Vietnam become an ideal destination for investors who are European agricultural enterprises in the near future./.
