(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of March 17, at Vietnam Maritime University, Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board in collaboration with Vietnam Maritime University organized the Workshop "Southern Coastal Economic Zone - New driving force for Hai Phong economic development". Comrade Le Trung Kien, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board and Associate Professor. Dr. Pham Xuan Duong, Rector of Vietnam Maritime University chaired the workshop.

Hai Phong Southern Coastal Economic Zone has a total area of 20,000 hectares, along the coastal highway, Van Uc River area, Nam Do Son port and logistics area, Tien Lang airport area.

Accordingly, the goal is to build the southern coastal economic zone of Hai Phong into a 3.0 generation, multi-sector ecological economic zone; Focus on high-tech industry and modern logistics; Hai Phong's focal point participating in regional and world value and supply chains; Pay attention to preserving cultural values and strengthening national defense and security. By 2030, it will become a key driving force of Hai Phong city's economy, equivalent to 80% of the capacity of Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone in 2023.

The delegates emphasized that the establishment of the new economic zone is to take advantage of the development potential of the Dinh Vu - Cat Hai economic zone, especially in the context of a strong wave of investment from other countries into Vietnam. With an important position in the dynamic region of the Red River Delta, located in 3 important economic corridors, Hai Phong South Coastal Economic Zone plays a particularly important role in connecting with neighboring economic zones, forming a chain of coastal economic zones, serving as a driving force for the development of the whole region. South Hai Phong coastal economic zone is oriented to become an ecological, circular, dynamic and sustainable economic zone; Multimodal connection center; smart industrial network; Modern, high-performance urban - service systemng; while still respecting cultural identity and connection to existing regions.

The delegates also discussed and proposed plans to develop the southern coastal economic zone of Hai Phong in terms of: industrial park development; urban development; traffic connection; green space, Nam Do Son Port, Industrial Park North of Van Uc River, Tien Lang Airport and forest ecosystem... At the same time, providing a development roadmap, estimates and implementation solutions for each stage.
