In the first 11 months of 2015, exports of FDI enterprises reached 105 billion USD (including crude oil), an increase 13.5% over the same period in 2014 and accounting for 70% of the country's total export turnover.
Meanwhile, imports of the foreign investment sector in the first 11 months of 2015 reached 90 billion USD, up 18% over the same period in 2014 and accounting for 59% of total import turnover. Overall, in the first 11 months of 2015, the foreign investment sector had a trade surplus of 1.5 billion USD (while the whole country had a trade deficit of 3.7 billion USD).
Regarding exports: Vietnam's main export products are still phones and components (28 billion USD), textiles and garments (20 billion USD), computers, electronic products and components (14 billion USD), and footwear (13 billion USD). It can be seen that these are also the key export products of FDI enterprises, especially in the field of exporting phones and components, the foreign investment sector almost dominates, typically Samsung's phone production project.
Regarding imports: Vietnam's main imported products are machinery, equipment and spare parts (25 billion USD), computers and electronic components (21 billion USD), phones and components (10 billion USD), fabrics of all kinds (9 billion USD), iron and steel of all kinds...
In general, the FDI sector has continued to maintain a high growth rate and contributed mainly to export growth in recent years. With advantages in market, capital and technology, it is clear that FDI enterprises always have advantages over domestic enterprises. However, there are still many problems related to added value in the export achievements of FDI enterprises, because in fact, high export growth rates are all processed and assembled goods. Therefore, there is a lot of export but also a large import of raw materials. However, it is impossible not to recognize the achievements and contributions of FDI enterprises in promoting Vietnam's exports, especially in high-tech fields.
The policy of encouraging export-oriented FDI has facilitated Vietnam's greater access to international markets, significantly improving Vietnam's export capacity, especially in industry, thereby helping Vietnam gradually participate and improve its position in the global value chain.
