Foreign direct investment situation as of December 15, 2014In total, for both new grants and capital increases in the first 12 months of 2014, foreign investors registered to invest in Vietnam 20.23 billion USD, equal to 93.5% compared to the same period in 2013 and increased 19% compared to the 2014 plan (17 billion USD).
Implemented capital:
As of December 15, 2014, it is estimated that foreign direct investment projects have disbursed 12.35 billion USD, an increase of 7.4% over the same period in 2013 and an increase of 2.9% compared to the 2014 plan.
Export and import situation:
Exports of the foreign investment sector (including crude oil) in the first 12 months of 2014 reached 101.59 billion USD, up 15.2% over the same period in 2013 and accounting for 68% of export turnover. Exports excluding crude oil in 12 months reached 94.41 billion USD, up 16.7% over the same period in 2013.
Imports of the foreign investment sector as of December 2014 reached 84.56 billion USD, up 13.6% over the same period in 2013 and accounting for 57% of import turnover. In total for 12 months, the foreign investment sector had a trade surplus of 17.03 billion USD.
According to reports received, as of December 15, 2014, the whole country had 1,588 new projects granted investment certificates with a total registered capital of 15.64 billion USD, an increase of 9.6% over the same period in 2013.
By December 15, 2014, there were 594 projects registered to increase investment capital with a total additional registered capital of 4.58 billion USD, equal to 62.4% over the same period in 2013.
In total, for both new grants and capital increases in the first 12 months of 2014, foreign investors registered to invest in Vietnam 20.23 billion USD, equal to 93.5% over the same period in 2013 and an increase of 19% compared to the 2014 plan (17 billion USD).
By investment field:
The processing and manufacturing industry is an area that attracts a lot of attention from foreign investors with 774 newly registered investment projects, the total newly and increased capital is 14.49 billion USD, accounting for 71.6% of the total registered investment capital in the first 12 months of 2014. The real estate business sector ranks second with 35 newly registered investment projects, total newly and increased investment capital. is 2.54 billion USD, accounting for 12.6% of total registered investment capital. Ranked third is the construction sector with a total newly registered and increased capital of 1.05 billion USD, accounting for 5.2% of the total registered capital.
According to investment partners:
From the beginning of 2014 until now, there have been 60 countries and territories with investment projects in Vietnam. Korea leads with a total newly registered investment capital and additional capital of 7.32 billion USD, accounting for 36.2% of total investment capital in Vietnam; Hong Kong ranked second with a total newly registered investment capital and additional capital of 3 billion USD, accounting for 14.8% of total investment capital; Singapore ranked third with a total newly registered investment capital and additional capital of 2.79 billion USD, accounting for 13.8% of total investment capital; followed by Japan ranked 4th with a total newly registered and increased capital of about 2.05 billion USD, accounting for 10.1% of total investment capital in Vietnam.
By locality
In the first 12 months of 2014, foreign investors invested in 54 provinces and cities nationwide. Among them, leading foreign investment is Thai Nguyen with 3.35 billion USD of newly registered capital and additional capital, accounting for 16.6% of the country's total investment capital. Ho Chi Minh City ranked second with a total newly registered capital and additional capital of 3.1 billion USD, accounting for 15.4% of the country's total investment capital. Dong Nai ranked third with 1.83 billion USD in newly registered capital and increased capital. Next are provinces/cities such as Bac Ninh, Binh Duong, Khanh Hoa with the scale of newly registered and increased capital of 1.58 billion USD respectively; 1.46 billion USD and 1.25 billion USD.

– Sam Sung Thai Nguyen High-Tech Complex Project - phase 2 investor Sam Sung Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. Thai Nguyen - Korea, investment project in Yen Binh I Industrial Park, Thai Nguyen province with total registered investment capital of 3 billion USD;
– Samsung CE Complex Electronics Co., Ltd. project invested by Samsung Asia Pte.Ltd - Singapore investor in Ho Chi Minh City with a total registered investment capital of 1.4 billion USD;
– Dewan International Co., Ltd. project invested by Hong Kong investors in Khanh Hoa with total registered investment capital of 1.25 billion USD;
– SamSung Display Bac Ninh Co., Ltd. project invested by Korean investors in Bac Ninh with a total registered investment capital of 1 billion USD;
