(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the afternoon of September 29, the City People's Committee held a meeting to review the progress of projects at Cat Bi International Airport invested by Vietnam Airport Corporation - JSC. Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam and Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan co-chaired the meeting. Attending the meeting were representatives of the Naval Command; Air Defense - Air Force; Vietnam Aviation Administration; Northern Airport Authority; Vietnam Airports Corporation – Joint Stock Company; together with leaders of relevant departments, functional branches and localities of the city.
In order to meet the needs of aviation growth and the medium-term investment and development plan of airports for the period 2015 - 2025, Airports Corporation of Vietnam - Joint Stock Company (ACV) implements investment projects to develop Cat Bi International Airport, including: Passenger Terminal Construction Project T2 - Cat Bi International Airport, with a design capacity of 05 million passengers/year, Designed in a linear form with 2 separate departure and arrival elevations including port access roads and 04 telescopic bridges to serve passengers, with a total investment of about 2,050 billion VND. Currently, ACV has coordinated with the consulting unit to complete the basic design documents; is completing procedures for detailed planning of 1/500 for the project to submit the basic design to the Department of Construction Management.Construction – Ministry of Construction appraises as a basis for project approval; The project to build a cargo terminal with a scale of exploiting 100 thousand tons of goods/year is designed with the ability to upgrade and expand to reach 250 thousand tons of goods/year, with a total investment of 390 billion VND; Office building project - Cat Bi International Airport with total investment of 65.9 billion VND.
For Projects: Upgrading and renovating the aircraft apron in the old terminal area and taxiway W2 was organized by ACV to start construction on March 24, 2020, currently the construction volume is about 56%; Airport apron expansion project phase 1 (in front of the cargo terminal, project on land area with an area of 5.49 hectares): ACV has completed the work of selecting contractors to carry out construction when the land is handed over; The aircraft apron expansion project phase 2 (in front of the new T2 passenger terminal) is currently being designed by ACV and is expected to complete procedures in September 2020 to implement the next steps.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam emphasized that Cat Bi International Airport has been in operation for nearly 5 years now, and passenger output is currently growing rapidly year by year. In 2018, Cat Bi International Airport reached 2.31 million passengers; in 2019, reaching 2.63 million passengers; In the first 7 months of 2020, due to the impact of COVID 19, output at the port only reached 1.23 million passengers, down 20.5% over the same period in 2019 and reaching 42% of the 2020 plan.
The Vice Chairman said that in the current period, domestic and international investors and tourists coming to Hai Phong are higher than before, attracting foreign investment in Hai Phong is also always ranked in the top 3 in the country... therefore, the policy of investing in building more passenger terminal No. 2 is very urgent. The Vice Chairman hopes that the Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Airports Corporation - JSC and related units will help create the fastest conditions to implement projects that effectively serve the city's socio-economic development. The Vice Chairman assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to speed up the work of granting land use rights certificates; Departments and functional agencies of the city coordinate closely with relevant units to consult and solve problemsRemove difficulties and adjust planning procedures so that the project can be approved soon.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan emphasized that the locality has had strong economic growth in the past few years. Hai Phong has become a driving force for development of the Northern region and the whole country, a center for international integration. The Deputy Minister affirmed that the Ministry of Transport fully supports the implementation of investment projects to develop Cat Bi International Airport, and expressed his expectation that in the coming time Cat Bi International Airport will be deployed as a base airport for Vietnamese Airlines. The Deputy Minister requested the CAAV to soon hand over the site to ACV to implement the project; Relevant units of the Ministry urgently appraise and approve the detailed planning; Complete procedures to start construction on the apron expansion project before October 13, 2020...
