Delegates performed the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Project.
(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of December 29 at Cat Bi International Airport, Airports Corporation of Vietnam - Joint Stock Company (ACV) held the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Cat Bi International Airport Airport Airport Expansion Project (phase 1). Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were comrades: Nguyen Duc Tho, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee; Nguyen Thi Phu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Committee for Management of State Capital at Enterprises; Dinh Viet Thang, Director of the Vietnam Aviation Administration; Lai Xuan Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation; and leaders of relevant city departments and branches.
The Cat Bi International Airport Airport Airport Expansion Project has a scale to meet 4 code E aircraft parking locations, bringing the total aircraft parking locations of Cat Bi Airport after project completion to 17 code C locations, contributing to improving the operational capacity of the entire airport, ensuring operational safety and will also be a sufficient reserve airport for Noi Bai International Airport. This is a special project, with a total investment capital of 489 billion VND, from the development investment capital of Vietnam International Airport Corporation. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation from December 2021.
Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho spoke at the Groundbreaking Ceremony.
Speaking at the Groundbreaking Ceremony, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho acknowledged and appreciated Vietnam Airlines Corporation for urgently removing difficulties and completing all procedures to start the project. This event will be an important milestone for ACV to continue implementing projects at Cat Bi International Airport such as: Passenger Terminal T2 construction project with a capacity of 5 million passengers/year; Cargo terminal construction project with capacity of 100,000 tons of goods/year; Airport apron expansion project (phase 2)…
The Vice Chairman emphasized that, according to Decision No. 236 of 2018 of the Prime Minister approving the adjustment of the Air Transport Development Plan to 2020, with a vision to 2030, Cat Bi International Airport's vision to 2030 will reach level 4E standards, with a capacity of 13 million passengers/year. Therefore, the need to continue developing and expanding the infrastructure of Cat Bi International Airport is essential, especially in the current trend of shifting production from some countries in the region to Vietnam in general and Hai Phong city in particular.
The Vice Chairman affirmed that Hai Phong city is committed to regularly supporting, creating favorable conditions, and quickly resolving procedures and problems that arise during project implementation. The Vice Chairman requested ACV and contractors to concentrate resources and implement construction items of the project to ensure technique, quality and progress.

In 2019, Cat Bi International Airport operated nearly 17,200 landings, welcomed more than 2.6 million passengers and nearly 20 thousand tons of goods, exceeding 0.6 million passengers compared to the design capacity of 2 million passengers/year.
