(Haiphong.gov.vn) – On the morning of November 24, the city's Department of Science and Technology coordinated with the Vietnam Institute of Economics to organize a scientific conference on attracting FDI in the new context in the spirit of Resolution No. 50-NQ/TW: opportunities, challenges and policy orientation of Hai Phong city. Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Quang Tuan, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics and MSc. Duong Ngoc Tuan, Director of the City Department of Science and Technology co-chaired the workshop. Attending were scientists; leaders of departments, branches and related units.

Hai Phong, with its position as a large city, the largest international trade gateway in the North, is always in the top of the country in attracting FDI capital. In 2018, Hai Phong ranked second in the country in attracting FDI with a total registered capital of 925 million USD. By 2019, Hai Phong attracted 58 new FDI projects and many projects to increase capital. Total newly granted FDI capital and increased capital is 1,438 million USD.
Resolution No. 50-NQ/TW dated August 20, 2019 of the Politburo on orientations to perfect institutions and policies, improve the quality and effectiveness of foreign investment cooperation by 2030. The resolution sets out requirements to attract high-quality FDI flows, according to which localities need to have new and breakthrough solutions to make good use of new opportunities.

Speaking at the Conference, Master Duong Ngoc Tuan, Director of the City Department of Science and Technology emphasized: green economy, ecological economy, digital transformation are inevitable trends; In the current situation, the breakthrough development of Vietnam's digital infrastructure and population structure is a golden opportunity to attract FDI from Vietnam in general and Hai Phong in particular. Attracting foreign investment is both an opportunity and a competitive challenge between countries, provinces and cities. Orienting and proposing solutions to reform institutions and policies plays a core role, along with new thinking, new breakthrough solutions, and innovation that will contribute to selectively attracting FDI with high and advanced technology in the portfolio of industries.the city's FDI attraction field, contributing to promoting the city's socio-economic development in the coming time. The workshop has practical significance, contributing to proposing mechanisms and policy orientations for foreign investment in Hai Phong.
