On the morning of June 17, Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Chairman of the City People's Committee, chaired a courtesy reception and working session with a high-level delegation from the German Federal Parliament led by Mr. Bodo Ramelow, Vice President of the Parliament, who visited and worked in Hai Phong.
Also attending the reception were Ms. Helga Margarete Barth, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam; Mr. Pham The Vinh, Deputy Director General of the Europe Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and representatives of relevant departments, agencies, and sectors of the city.
On behalf of the city's leadership, Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Chairman of the City People's Committee, expressed his pleasure and warmly welcomed Mr. Bodo Ramelow, Ambassador Barth, and the members of the delegation to Hai Phong. He affirmed that the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany is increasingly developing deeply and substantively in many fields, with economic, trade, and investment cooperation always being one of the most important pillars. Germany is currently one of Vietnam's leading economic partners in Europe, with outstanding strengths in manufacturing, logistics, strategic infrastructure planning, green technology, and digital transformation. These are also the areas that Hai Phong city is particularly interested in and focusing on promoting.
Providing an overview of the locality's potential, position, and development orientation, the Chairman of the City People's Committee emphasized that, in addition to natural advantages and a synchronous transport infrastructure system, including modern seaports, Hai Phong is focusing on developing a system of 02 Economic Zones, 46 Industrial Parks, and a Free Trade Zone with specific and superior mechanisms and policies in accordance with Resolution No. 226 of the National Assembly. These breakthrough steps are creating strong new momentum for the logistics industry, seaport services, and enhancing the capacity to attract high-quality international investment capital. As of now, Hai Phong city has 14 direct investment (FDI) projects from German partners with a total investment capital of over 273 million USD. The presence and effective operation of German enterprises in recent times have actively contributed to the overall socio-economic development of the locality. With the strategic goal of developing Hai Phong into an international logistics center and a modern seaport service center in the Northern region, the city's leadership expressed its desire to further strengthen comprehensive cooperation with German partners, agencies, and businesses in the fields of transport infrastructure planning, modern seaport development, and smart logistics.
Expressing his sincere gratitude for the solemn and thoughtful reception from Hai Phong city's leadership, Mr. Bodo Ramelow, Vice President of the German Federal Parliament, expressed his deep impression of the dynamic and strong development and strategic vision of the Port city, especially the orientation to form a Free Trade Zone and modernize the logistics infrastructure system. Affirming that Germany always attaches importance to the Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, Mr. Bodo Ramelow assessed Hai Phong as a bright spot for investment attraction and a potential partner for German businesses in Southeast Asia. The Vice President of the German Parliament emphasized that with Germany's existing strengths and experience in manufacturing, smart seaports, infrastructure planning, renewable energy, and environmental protection, the two sides have immense scope for cooperation. In the coming time, in his capacity, he pledged to actively act as a bridge to encourage German agencies, organizations, and business associations to strengthen their understanding, survey, and implement specific investment and cooperation projects in Hai Phong; and at the same time promote cooperation in training high-quality human resources for modern industries, making practical contributions to the friendly and sustainable development relationship between the two countries.
