As of December 20, 2017, the whole country had 2,591 new projects granted Investment Certificates with a total registered capital of 21.27 billion USD, an increase of 42.3% over the same period in 2016; There were 1,188 projects registered to adjust investment capital with a total registered capital increase of approximately 8.41 billion USD, an increase of 49.2% over the same period in 2016 and 5,002 times of capital contribution and share purchase by foreign investors with a total capital contribution value of 6.19 billion USD, an increase of 45.1% over the same period in 2016.
According to investment fields, foreign investors have invested in 19 industries, of which the processing and manufacturing industry is the field that attracts a lot of attention from foreign investors with a total capital of 15.87 billion USD, accounting for 44.2% of total registered investment capital. The field of electricity production and distribution ranked second with a total investment capital of 8.37 billion USD, accounting for 23.3% of total registered investment capital. Ranked third is the real estate business sector with a total registered investment capital of 3.05 billion USD, accounting for 8.5% of the total registered investment capital.
According to investment partners, there are 115 countries and territories with investment projects in Vietnam, of which Japan ranks first with a total investment capital of 9.11 billion USD, accounting for 25.4% of the total investment capital. Korea ranked second with a total registered investment capital of 8.49 billion USD, accounting for 23.7% of total investment capital in Vietnam; Singapore ranked third with a total registered investment capital of 5.3 billion USD, accounting for 14.8% of total investment capital.
According to investment area, foreign investors have invested in 59 provinces and cities, of which Ho Chi Minh City is the locality that attracts the most foreign investment capital with a total registered capital of 6.5 billion USD, accounting for 18.1% of total investment capital. Bac Ninh ranked second with a total registered capital of 3.4 billion USD, accounting for 9.5% of total investment capital. Thanh Hoa ranked third with a total registered capital of 3.17 billion USD, accounting for 8.8% of total investment capital.
Some major projects licensed in 2017
The investment project to build BOT Nghi Son 2 thermal power plant, with a total investment capital of 2.79 billion USD, is invested by Japanese investors in Thanh Hoa with the goal of designing, constructing, operating and transferring a coal-fired thermal power plant with a (net) capacity of about 1,200 MW;
Van Phong 1 BOT Thermal Power Plant Project, total registered investment capital of 2.58 billion USD invested by Japanese investors in Khanh Hoa with the goal of designing, constructing, operating and transferring a coal-fired thermal power plant with a net capacity of 1,320MW;
