British Royal Navy ship HMS Enterprise paid a courtesy visit to Hai Phong city

(Haiphong.gov.vn) – With the approval of the Ministry of National Defense, on the morning of February 19, the British Royal Navy ship HMS Enterprise docked at Tan Vu port, starting a courtesy visit to Hai Phong city from February 19 to February 25, 2020. Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Thanh and Mr. Gareth Ward, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Vietnam welcomed the delegation at the wharf.

In recent times, bilateral relations between Vietnam and the United Kingdom in general and defense cooperation in particular have always been promoted. This visit of the British Royal Navy ship HMS Enterprise takes place in the year the UK and Vietnam celebrate 10 years of strategic partnership, in which security & defense are important areas of cooperation.

The presence of the Navy ship HMS Enterprise will be an opportunity to promote cooperation between the UK and Vietnam in exchanging hydrographic expertise as well as strengthening the connection between the two countries' navies.

Immediately after the formal welcoming ceremony of the leaders of the City People's Committee and the UK Ambassador to Vietnam, the crew will begin a courtesy visit lasting until February 25, 2020 in Vietnam.

HMS Enterprise is an ECHO-class survey ship, put into use in 2003 with a crew of 72 people, and 48 people on board. The ship's primary role is to conduct hydrographic and oceanographic surveys, contributing to the safety of sailors both in and out of defense. The ship can operate throughout the ocean and is a key unit of the UK's Military Hydrographic Industry with the ability to collect and synthesize Ocean data at least until 2028. The ship has a length of 94m, a tonnage of 3470 tons and is capable of moving at a speed of 16.5 knots/hour.
