First session, 16th National Assembly: Consolidating key leadership positions of the State

On April 7, at Dien Hong Hall (National Assembly House), continuing the program of the First Session, the 16th National Assembly conducted the process of electing key leadership positions of the State. 

With the absolute consensus of 100% of the National Assembly delegates present, comrade To Lam, Politburo member, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam was trusted by the National Assembly to be elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2026 - 2031 term. Immediately after the results were announced, President To Lam performed the oath of office ceremony before the National Assembly, affirming his absolute loyalty to the Organization. Nation, People and Constitution.

Also in the work program on April 7, the National Assembly conducted the process of electing the Prime Minister. Under the leadership of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, with 495/495 delegates voting in favor, the National Assembly passed a Resolution to elect comrade Le Minh Hung, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Organizing Committee to hold the position of Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the term 2026 - 2031. After taking office, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung performed the oath-taking ceremony in front of the government. National Assembly according to the provisions of the Constitution.

Regarding the organizational structure, the National Assembly voted to pass the Resolution on the organizational structure of the new term Government using the electronic voting system. Accordingly, the Government for the 2026 - 2031 term has a structure of 14 ministries and 3 ministerial-level agencies. The ministries include: National Defense, Public Security, Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, Justice, Finance, Industry and Trade, Agriculture and Environment, Construction, Culture, Sports and Tourism, Science and Technology, Education and Training, Health, Ethnicity and Religion. 3 ministerial-level agencies include: State Bank of Vietnam, Government Inspectorate and Government Office.

Also in the working session on the same day, the National Assembly elected other important leadership positions including: Vice President, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court and Director of the Supreme People's Procuracy. The timely consolidation of key leadership positions at the First Session is particularly important, creating a solid foundation for the State apparatus to successfully implement socio-economic development goals and ensure national defense and security in the 2026 - 2031 term./.
