(Haiphong.gov.vn) – On the morning of October 22, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organized an online conference with 28 coastal provinces and cities and a number of related organizations and businesses on safe adaptive fisheries exploitation and COVID-19 epidemic prevention. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien chaired the conference at Hanoi Bridge.

Delegates attending at the bridge point in Hai Phong city.
In attendance at the Hai Phong bridge were Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho; together with representatives of leaders of departments, branches, functional units and representatives of a number of organizations and businesses purchasing and processing seafood in the city.
According to the assessment report of the Directorate of Fisheries, in the first 9 months of 2021, the total output of marine fisheries exploitation is estimated to reach 2,917 million tons (up 0.8% over the same period in 2020. Of which, the output of tuna, squid and pelagic fish species accounts for about 60%; the output in the Southeast fishing grounds accounts for the highest rate of about 40%; the output in the region The Gulf of Tonkin and the Southwest continues to trend downward. Due to the impact of COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures, many fishing vessels have to stop production and stay ashore. According to statistics from the provinces, the number of fishing vessels that stopped fishing in just 3 months is 43,200 vessels, equivalent to 4.6% of the fishing capacity, (about 9,800 vessels in July; 19,700 vessels in August, and September 2019).is 13,700 ships) ships stopped production, reducing exploitation output in 3 months by about 186,000 tons in 2021.
The epidemic has deeply impacted the seafood consumption chain, causing product prices to decrease by 15 - 20% over the same period. In addition to the impact of the epidemic, ships have to stay ashore and cannot go fishing, there are also other reasons such as: low average exploitation productivity, increased raw material prices, difficulties in loading, purchasing, and transporting seafood due to distance, lack of labor due to travel restrictions between localities...
In general, fisheries logistics services face many difficulties during the implementation of COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures at fishing ports. Many seafood processing and exporting enterprises have flexibly applied measures to stabilize raw materials and organize safe production to prevent epidemics at factories. Thanks to that, the accumulated seafood export turnover in the first 9 months of the year is estimated to reach 2.6 billion USD (up about 3.6% over the same period in 2020); Top 5 largest seafood import markets of Vietnam include: US, Japan, China, EU, Korea.
In order for aquatic exploitation to adapt safely, flexibly, effectively control the COVID-19 epidemic, and bring the chain of aquatic exploitation activities in localities back to a new normal state, leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development asked localities to focus on completing the 2021 plan targets with marine exploitation output reaching about 3.41 million tons and export turnover reaching 3.6 billion USD; Synchronously deploy solutions to prevent illegal mining; support policies; Update clear information on the situation of fisheries exploitation in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic...
