That was one of the contents discussed by Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Khanh at the reception and working session with Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Carlos de Icaza, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade today (September 7).
At the reception, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Khanh welcomed the working visit of the Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister and the delegation and highly appreciated the Deputy's trip. growg in the context that economic and trade relations between the two countries are achieving important progress, especially since the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) was signed. At the same time, we hope that the Governments of Vietnam and Mexico will make joint efforts to complete the ratification of the TPP Agreement this year, thereby creating many new opportunities for businesses of the two countries and contributing to further promoting bilateral cooperation in many fields.
Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Khanh affirmed that Mexico has always been an important partner of Vietnam in the Americas and the economic and trade relations between the two countries still have a lot of potential that can be exploited in the near future. The two sides also agreed to organize the first meeting of the Joint Committee on economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Mexico in early 2017 and actively promote further trade promotion activities between the two countries.
In the first 6 months of 2016, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Mexico reached 1.1 billion USD, an increase of 18% over the same period in 2015; Of which Vietnam's export turnover to Mexico increased by 25%, reaching nearly 900 million US dollars; Vietnam's imports from Mexico decreased by 6%, reaching 221 million USD.
Within the framework of this working visit to Vietnam by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Mexico, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Trade and Investment Promotion Agency and the Mexican Bank for Foreign Trade will have working sessions with relevant Vietnamese authorities to agree on the possibility of signing cooperation agreements and establishing support mechanisms for businesses of the two countries in the near future.
