(Haiphong.gov.vn) On the afternoon of June 17, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Head of the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, chaired an online conference with 28 coastal provinces and cities to summarize the activities of the National Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing.

Attending the meeting at the Hai Phong city bridge were Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho and representatives of relevant departments, branches, units and localities.
Up to now, the country has 86,820 fishing vessels, of which nearly 28,600 fishing vessels of 15m or more are installed with cruise monitoring equipment, reaching a rate of 98.25%. The implementation of traceability of seafood origins and handling of IUU fishing violations since the 4th inspection by the European Commission (EC) has had many positive changes, bringing high efficiency.

However, besides that, there are still some limitations such as: there are still illegal fishing vessels in foreign waters; Registration and issuance of fisheries exploitation licenses have not yet been completed; Management and supervision of fishing vessels do not comply with proper procedures and regulations...
In Hai Phong, the total number of fishing vessels with a length of 6m or more is 978 vessels, of which 868 fishing vessels are qualified to exploit fishery and have been registered on the fishing vessel management system; 313 fishing vessels over 15m long have been installed with cruise monitoring equipment reaching a rate of 100%...

Concluding the Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang acknowledged and appreciated the positive changes in combating IUU fishing. At the same time, clearly pointing out the limitations and things that have not been done, thereby emphasizing that in the coming time, ministries, branches, localities and relevant units must consider the task of combating IUU exploitation and removing the Yellow card of the European Commission EC as particularly important. Besides, the forces must strengthen coordination; launched a peak campaign against IUU fishing; strengthen information and propaganda; Improve fleet management and supervision capacity; Implement seafood traceability; Resolutely handle violations strictly to increase deterrence. There is also a need to regularly inspect and monitor the fight against IUU exploitationi localities to promptly adjust and resolve... along with a number of other important tasks./.
