(Haiphong.gov.vn) – On the afternoon of March 17, the Working Committee for Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations organized a nationwide online briefing to exchange, share information and set directions and tasks for 2021. The conference listened to reports on foreign non-governmental work in 2020 and directions and tasks for 2021, shared information on the activities of foreign non-governmental organizations related to political security and issues that need attention in the current situation; At the same time, note the new points in Decree 80 dated July 8, 2020 of the Government on the management and use of non-refundable aid that is not part of official development support of foreign agencies, organizations and individuals for Vietnam.
Accordingly, in 2020 there will be 500 NGOs operating in Vietnam, 33 countries have NGOs operating in our country. The disbursement value of non-governmental organizations sponsoring 220 million USD decreased by 15% compared to 2019; The disbursement rate last year reached 71%. NGO aid by sector has seriously decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic. The health sector reached over 51 million USD, socio-economic development 43.5 million USD; Education and training reached 30.9 million USD...

Also in the past year, NGOs largely focused on cooperating with local authorities and public service units in central ministries. Two outstanding activities in 2020 of foreign NGOs are supporting Vietnam in COVID-19 epidemic prevention with 115 organizations supporting about 6.5 million USD; 45 organizations supported 9 million USD in different forms to help Vietnam promptly respond and provide relief to people after natural disasters, storms and floods in the Central region.
In Hai Phong, in 2020, there were 46 NGOs with registration certificates operating in the city. Among them, there are 32 foreign NGOs and foreign businesses/individuals sponsoring 49 programs/projects/non-projects, giving charity gifts with a total committed value in 2020 equivalent to 145.8 billion VND, the actual disbursement value last year reached more than 93 billion VND (64%).
Concluding the conference, the leaders of the Foreign NGO Working Committee suggested that in 2021, ministries, branches and localities need to continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the Party's guidelines and the State's legal policies on NGO work; enhance the effectiveness of management, prevention, and fight against violating activities; Strengthen coordination and information sharing between agencies and localities; Strengthen inspection and supervision activities; Monitor trends and change aid goals of NGOs; diversify aid sources, expand subjects and advocacy methods to achieve the highest efficiency...
