The wind power project to supply electricity to Bach Long Vi island district, Hai Phong city for the period of 2015-2020 was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2019. The investor is Northern Electricity Corporation. Project implementation management is the Electricity Development Project Management Board. The design, supply of materials, equipment and construction unit is the joint venture AIT-MECTA-PECC1. The receiving, managing and operating unit is Hai Phong Electricity Company Limited.

The project aims to provide stable, continuous and unlimited electricity, meeting the needs of daily life and production and tourism services of households, businesses and other units on the island; creating motivation for the development of light industries and supporting industries to serve the development of the marine economy and marine tourism activities. At the same time, it meets the conditions to become a center for processing and providing fisheries logistics and search and rescue services for the Northern coastal provinces, ensuring sustainable development and protecting the marine environment, affirming the sovereignty of the country's islands and seas.
The investment and construction scale of the project includes: New construction of 1 wind turbine with a capacity of 1MW; new construction of solar power farm with installed capacity of 504kWp; New installation of 2 1000KVA generators; 630kVA/2000kVAh storage battery system; 0.4kV distribution cabinet system, generator synchronization system, microgrid system... The project has been under construction since the end of 2020.
The Electricity Development Project Management Board and construction units completed the installation of all equipment of the Bach Long Vi island wind power project.
According to Mr. Hoang Van Hung, Deputy Director of the Electricity Development Project Management Board, the construction and implementation of the project encountered many difficulties due to remote islands, weather conditions, difficult travel and a period of interruption (3 months) due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the investor and construction units made every effort to overcome all difficulties, transporting hundreds of tons of equipment to the island; Organizing successful installation, ensuring quality and technical requirements, meeting the requirements of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity Group, Northern Electricity Corporation, ensuring full, stable, long-term power supply for the people and forces on Bach Long Vi island./.
