(Haiphong.gov.vn) – Continuing his business trip to Korea, on June 26, comrade Le Tien Chau, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the Hai Phong National Assembly Delegation worked with Mr. Oh Sang Rok, President of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology - KIST to promote exchange and cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation.
Attending the working session were comrade Le Trung Kien, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board and leaders of the city's departments and branches.

At the meeting, President of the Korean Institute of Science and Technology Mr. Oh Sang Rok emphasized that the KIST Institute is the first research institute funded by the Korean Government and one of the world's leading research institutes. The institute is developing carbon-neutral technology by promoting the deployment of clean energy systems. Regarding digital technology, the Institute aims to use human-friendly artificial intelligence technology and digital health systems. The global cooperation strategy that KIST Institute aims for is to cooperate with the world's leading Institutes and share KIST's model through ODA support. KIST Institute has cooperated and supported the transfer of KIST's science and technology model in the process of building and developing the Vietnam Science and Technology Research Institute in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.
Chairman Oh Sang Rok affirmed that the visit and working session of the Hai Phong City Delegation demonstrated the goodwill and interest of the city's leaders in the development of science, technology and innovation. From good beginnings, KIST and Hai Phong will concretize the cooperation agreement, enhance technology transfer as well as exchange many research programs, contributing to deepening the good relationship between Korea and the port city.
Confirming the priority given to choosing the Korean Institute of Science and Technology to work on this business trip, City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau said that, in the development trend of technology, Hai Phong recognizes that the scientific achievements, inventions and initiatives of Korean experts have been recognized by the world. Introducing the city's outstanding achievements, the City Party Secretary emphasized that 2023 is the 9th consecutive year that Hai Phong has achieved a GRDP growth rate nearly double the national average. Hai Phong has completed and exceeded many targets set for the year. Attracting foreign direct investment reached over 3.5 billion USD, ranking 2nd in the country. Hai Phong's success has a significant contribution from businesses and investorsfrom Korea. Korea currently ranks first in the total number of projects and total registered investment capital among 39 countries and territories investing in Hai Phong city with a total of 183 projects and total registered investment capital of 11.5 billion USD.
City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau and Mr. Oh Sang Rok, President of the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) signed a cooperation agreement.
City leaders always prioritize resources to focus on developing science, technology and innovation to serve sustainable socio-economic development; innovate and improve state management of science, technology and innovation; develop scientific, technological and innovation potential; Develop scientific, technological and innovation potential, and promote innovation links, building domestic and international innovation ecosystems. In the coming time, Hai Phong city hopes that KIST Institute will coordinate and support the city in cooperation, exchange and human resource training activities in fields of mutual interest, promoting research activities between the two sides; promote opportunities for economic cooperationbusiness through cooperative projects, technology transfer initiatives, cooperation models combining research and business and providing relevant information.
The Secretary of the City Party Committee also proposed that KIST Institute connect and cooperate with Hai Phong University in research and development of science and technology, exchange of lecturers, and grant research scholarships to lecturers and students of the school. He respectfully conveyed the invitation to the President of KIST Institute to visit Hai Phong and attend the Hai Phong Red Poinciana Festival - 2024 on May 11 - This is one of the unique, characteristic and rich cultural value festivals of the Port city.
On this occasion, the Secretary of the City Party Committee presented the cooperation agreement signed between Hai Phong City People's Committee and the Korean Institute of Science and Technology on the development of science, technology and innovation.

Next, the City delegation visited the Seoul Biotechnology Startup Center - Seoul Bio Hub. This is a Center to support startup innovation in the field of biology established and operated by the city of Seoul and Seoul Bio Hub plays the role of supporting startups in the biomedical field to develop, promote business potential and penetrate the global market. In addition to this role, the Center is also a strong step for the city of Seoul in building and developing a biotechnology cluster - where there is an ecosystem of research organizations, hospitals, venture capitalists, startups and well-trained biomedical experts, ready to turn science into business opportunities.
The City Party Secretary hopes that Seoul Bio Hub will support Hai Phong city in developing biotechnology, pharmaceutical production and exchanges in the medical field, contributing to further strengthening the cooperation between Hai Phong city and the Korean Institute of Science and Technology./.
