(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of January 8, Mr. Phung Duc Tien - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee on IUU led a working delegation to work with the People's Committee of Hai Phong city on the implementation of the 2017 Fisheries Law and the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUU). Receiving and working with the delegation, the city side had Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Dinh Chuyen and leaders of relevant departments, branches and units.

Currently, Hai Phong has 1,189 registered fishing vessels. In 2019, the authorities conducted appraisals of 1,063 fishing vessels, resolving 100% of dossiers. Of which, 578 fishing licenses were renewed and issued, 105 registration certificates, and 380 technical safety certificates for fishing vessels. Mining output reached nearly 101.3 thousand tons, an increase of 6.78% compared to 2018.
Implementing the Fisheries Law, documents guiding the implementation of the Law and combating IUU fishing, the City People's Committee, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Steering Committee against IUU fishing have issued many plans and legal documents. Propaganda and advocacy work are emphasized. During the year, the city organized 34 training sessions on the Fisheries Law for nearly 3,000 fishermen, and distributed 2,500 leaflets and documents to propagate the Law. Instruct and require 100% of offshore fishing vessel owners to sign a commitment not to violate foreign waters to catch seafood; 1,256 ship owners and captains committed to comply with the 2017 Fisheries Law and not violate IUU fishing. Patrolling and control of fishing vessels at sea and at fishing ports has been tightened. Ashper year, the authorities supervised 1,560 ships passing through the port, the actual output through the port was 4,468 tons; Confirmed 431 fishing vessels arriving at the port, 344 fishing vessels leaving the port... Organized 21 rounds of inspections, inspections, warnings for 455 vehicles, administrative sanctions against 40 vehicle owners...
In addition to the achieved results, the actual implementation of the Fisheries Law and the fight against IUU fishing in the city also reveals many difficulties and inadequacies.

Speaking at the working session, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development - Phung Duc Tien emphasized: Hai Phong is one of the five major fishing centers of the country. Through the actual inspection at the locality, the delegation suggested that in the coming time, Hai Phong needs to focus on doing well the following tasks: Strengthening management and strict control of fishing vessels at sea as well as fishing vessels exporting and landing; Do a good job of declaring exploited aquatic products and trace the origin of aquatic products at all stages in the chain from exploitation to export; Strictly handle violations to ensure the right subjects, right authority, and right level of violation.

Previously, the working group conducted an actual inspection at Ngoc Hai Fishing Port, Do Son on the work of recording the exploitation logbook, registering and registering fishing vessels, and tracing the origin of exploited aquatic products.
