The nation's largest seaport service center in the near future

This is also the moment that marks the transformation of Cat Island, which only had agriculture, to a new form that has never existed: seaport services. This project will make Cat Hai the largest seaport service center in the country.

A remarkable transformation

For many generations, the people of Cat Hai did not think that one day Cat Bui island in the 5 estuary area would have such a strong transformation. In an arid land lacking fresh water, people clinging to the sea all year round to find food and poverty is now seen as a potential land to develop the marine economy, especially the seaport economy. The favorable weather, favorable terrain, and harmonious people have transformed Cat Hai, becoming the most potential land in the country in terms of seaports.

It started many years ago, through many debates between shoulds and shouldn'ts, but then scientists, managers, and economists recognized Cat Hai island as a rare type of potential to build a deep-water seaport, integrating into the powerful seaport system of Hai Phong and the whole country in the national marine strategy. Then 25,000 billion VND to build a deep-water port, the gateway to Hai Phong port block, was officially approved by the Government, invested in Cat Hai island. The country's largest deep-water port in the past 10 years has been started and the investor, the Vietnam Maritime Administration, announced that it will complete the project 6 months ahead of schedule. With the scale of an international gateway port, Lach Huyen Port will meet the requirements of receiving container ships and general ships with a tonnage of up to 100,000 tons. There is a turning basin with a diameter of up to 660m for ships of 50,000 DWT and container ships of 100,000 tons. The most modern equipment technologies such as dock edge gantry cranes with lifting capacity of 54 tons, RTG wheeled cranes, forklifts, tractors... will be invested in Lach Huyen, ensuring good investment in modern synchronous management and exploitation equipment, ensuring the needs of loading and unloading goods through the current period, in accordance with future development...

Unity for a common goal

Hai Phong international gateway port built in Cat Hai encountered many difficulties in the early stages of site clearance, because people used to living on the island did not want to move or live in other lands. One option proposed was popular and highly supported: resettlement on site and moving the cemetery to a cleaner, more beautiful place. With the active participation of the Cat Hai district government, the enthusiasm of the people and the efforts of the investor, site clearance work was completed on schedule. Islanders have the opportunity to witness their homeland changing day by day.

Also to promote the exploitation capacity of Lach Huyen deep-water port, in early 2014, a bridge connecting the inner city with Cat Hai island was started construction by the Ministry of Transport. The lifelong dream of the people of Cat Island has come true. This bridge will also be completed in 2017, coinciding with the completion of the first two launch berths of Lach Huyen port.

When bridges, roads and ports come into operation, Cat Hai will become the largest seaport service center in Vietnam. In addition to the ability to receive trans-oceanic ships, this land will be an ideal destination for foreign investors, representatives, shipping agents... Cat Hai's outstanding attractions will turn this place into a respectable seaport logistics center in the world, because from Cat Hai, it is only about 20km to Cat Bi international airport, and only about 10km to the final intersection of the Hanoi-Hai Phong highway. Furthermore, the intersection of seaport types will make Cat Hai both the starting point and the ending point. This is the goal that all major international seaports in the world are aiming for.

The construction and development of Hai Phong Port City and the Northern provinces will develop sustainably based on the solid framework of Hai Phong International Gateway Port - a synchronous logistics and transportation system, which will contribute to implementing Vietnam's marine strategy until 2020: striving to make our country a strong maritime nation.
