In the first quarter, exports of the foreign investment sector (including crude oil) reached 39.34 billion USD, up 22.8% over the same period in 2017 and accounting for 72.4% of export turnover. Exports excluding crude oil reached 38.83 billion USD, up 24.2% over the same period in 2017 and accounting for 71.5% of export turnover.
Imports of the foreign investment sector reached 31.75 billion USD, up 13.7% over the same period in 2017 and accounting for nearly 59.9% of import turnover. Overall, the foreign investment sector had a trade surplus of 7.59 billion USD including crude oil and a trade surplus of 7.08 billion USD excluding crude oil.
The whole country has 618 new projects granted Investment Certificates with a total registered capital of 2.12 billion USD, equal to 72.7% compared to the same period in 2017; There were 199 projects registered to adjust investment capital with a total registered capital increase of 1.79 billion USD, equal to 45.4% compared to the same period in 2017.
Also in the first quarter of 2018, there were 1,285 times of capital contribution and share purchase by foreign investors with a total capital contribution value of 1.89 billion USD, an increase of 121.6% over the same period in 2017. Of which, there were 732 times of capital contribution and share purchase to increase the charter capital of the enterprise with a capital contribution value of 1.34 billion USD and 553 times of capital contribution and purchase. shares that foreign investors buy back domestic shares without increasing charter capital with a total capital contribution value of 547.8 million USD.
According to investment fields, foreign investors have invested in 17 industries, of which the processing and manufacturing industry is the field that attracts a lot of attention from foreign investors with a total capital of 3.44 billion USD, accounting for 59.4% of total registered investment capital. The wholesale and retail sector ranked second with a total investment capital of 531 million USD, accounting for 9.2% of total registered investment capital. Ranked third is the real estate business sector with a total registered investment capital of 486 million USD, accounting for 8.4% of the total registered investment capital.
According to investment partners, there are 76 countries and territories with investment projects in Vietnam. Korea ranked first with a total investment capital of 1.84 billion USD, accounting for 31.6% of total investment capital. Hong Kong ranked second with a total registered investment capital of approximately 689 million USD, accounting for 11.9% of total investment capital in Vietnam. Singapore ranked third with a total registered investment capital of 649 million USD, accounting for 11.2% of total investment capital.
According to investment area, foreign investors have invested in 49 provinces and cities, of which Ho Chi Minh City attracted the most foreign investment capital with a total registered capital of 1.7 billion USD, accounting for 29.3 of the total investment capital. Hai Phong ranked second with a total registered capital of 925 million USD, accounting for approximately 16% of total investment capital. Binh Duong ranked third with a total registered capital of 565 million USD, accounting for 9.7% of total investment capital.
