(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the afternoon of January 30, the Department of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the City Union of Friendship Organizations and the city's Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association to organize a meeting to celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation (January 30, 1950 - January 30, 2020). Attending the meeting were comrades Duong Anh Dien, former Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association of Hai Phong city; Nguyen Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee; Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City Union of Friendship Organizations; Mr. Nilov Roman, Third Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vietnam; and representatives of a number of city departments and branches.

In the warm atmosphere of the first days of spring, delegates together reviewed the achievements that the two sides have achieved, traditional memories, special relationships, good feelings and great contributions of the Party, government and people of the former Soviet Union as well as the Russian Federation today to the people of Vietnam in general and Hai Phong city in particular. Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Thanh emphasized: Hai Phong city has long had good traditional relationships with many localities of the former Soviet Union, today the Russian Federation, especially the twinned relationship with the city of Vladivostok in the Far East and is continuing to establish relationships with many other cities and localities of the Russian Federation. This good relationship has been diligently nurtured by generations of leaders of both sides through specific actions, strengthening cooperation in many fields, not only political diplomacy but also people's diplomacy and cultural diplomacy.

The Vice Chairman also recognized and appreciated the city's Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association for clearly demonstrating its role as a bridge of friendship between the people of Hai Phong city and Russian friends, with many practical and effective activities, actively cultivating the traditional relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, contributing to the city's socio-economic development. The Vice Chairman believes that in the coming time, the city's Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association will continue to take the lead in people-to-people foreign affairs activities, further promoting its role as a bridge of solidarity and friendship with friendly countries; have specific and practical action programs, expand people-to-people diplomacy activities, interact with other provinces and localities, and actively contribute to the socio-economic development of the country and city.
