On October 28, 2024, representatives of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations, Department of Finance welcomed the delegation of the Institute of Development Strategy and representatives of SK Group (Korea) about the SK Group's rest stop business model project - Logistics Center.

Sharing at the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai, Head of Foreign Economic Relations Department of the Department of Finance introduced the investment environment and some outstanding results in attracting foreign investment in the first 10 months of 2024. Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai said the cumulative calculation to date October 28, 2024, in the city there are 985 valid projects with a total registered investment capital of over 31 billion USD, including Korean enterprises. In Hai Phong, among 39 countries and territories investing in the city, Korean investors lead in total registered investment capital (11.8 billion USD) and rank second in number of registered projects (183 projects), focusing mainly on the fields of electronics and spare parts.g cars, machinery. Of these, there are 108 projects in the economic zone reaching 10.46 billion USD and 75 projects outside the zone reaching 1.17 billion USD. Projects of Korean investors in the city are considered to operate effectively, with many high-tech products, gradually helping to improve the technology and science content of businesses in the city, helping to increase export turnover, solving labor problems and contributing to the city budget... Typical investment projects of Korean investors in Hai Phong include: LG Group (9.24 billion USD), Heesung (154 million USD); Haengsung (115 million USD)…
Also at the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai shared that Hai Phong is focusing on infrastructure development; industrial parks, economic zones, especially the southern coastal economic zone with an area of 20,000 hectares. According to Hai Phong city planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the city prioritizes the development of key industries that play a leading role in the city's economic growth, including seaport services and logistics, a strong industry of SK Group.

Overview of the working session
At the meeting, SK Group representatives were provided with general information about the investment environment, industrial zones and clusters and the city's investment attraction orientation. Evaluating Hai Phong as an attractive destination for Korean businesses and investors, with outstanding advantages in seaports, convenient transportation systems and strongly invested infrastructure, SK Group wishes to find suitable locations to deploy the Rest Stop Business Model Project - Logistics Center with the expectation of expanding into a truck refueling center, distributing logistics services, agricultural products...
On the Institute of Development Strategy's side, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Truong - Deputy Director highly appreciated the potential for logistics development in Hai Phong and expected that SK Group's project would contribute to changing the overall picture of logistics in Vietnam, which is currently operating small-scale with high operating costs. The new ecosystem built by SK Group will help domestic businesses cut interprovincial logistics operating costs in the near future.

During the working session, Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai, Head of the Foreign Economic Relations Department answered the delegation's questions about investment incentives in Hai Phong, procedures for investors, land prices... For questions falling under the jurisdiction of other Departments, committees and branches, the Foreign Economic Relations Department will respond to investors through email and contact points of the Working Group in Vietnam. Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai wants after this business trip, SK Group will collect more useful information for project implementation in Hai Phong. Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai affirmed that the success of investors is the development of the capitala city. The City Department of Finance will continue to accompany Korean businesses and investors in general and SK Group in particular in implementing logistics investment projects in Hai Phong in the near future.
