On the afternoon of May 8, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City Do Thanh Trung had a courtesy reception and working session with the delegation of Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China) led by Mr. Hou Cuong, Mayor of the city on the occasion of a working visit to Hai Phong and attending the opening event of the Red Poinciana Festival - Hai Phong 2026.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the City People's Committee Do Thanh Trung expressed his joy when welcoming the delegation from the sister city of Nam Ninh to visit and work in Hai Phong. He affirmed that Hai Phong always values and wishes to improve its cooperative relationship with Nam Ninh city, and emphasized that the locality is actively perfecting transportation infrastructure, especially coordinating the implementation of standard gauge railway projects and coastal railway lines to optimize the supply chain, creating a solid premise for the exchange of goods between the two localities.
On behalf of the delegation, Mayor of Nanning city Hou Cuong expressed his gratitude for the respectful welcome of Hai Phong city leaders. Mr. Hau Cuong shared his deep impression with Hai Phong's strong development speed, especially the city's development orientation towards a green, civilized and modern urban area. The delegation highly appreciated Hai Phong's vision in balancing industrial economic development with environmental protection and building a sustainable living space for people.
Mayor of Nanning city Hou Cuong expressed his joy when witnessing the friendly relationship between the two sister cities from 2006 until now being consistently strengthened and developed sustainably in many fields from cultural exchange to economic and trade cooperation. Mr. Hau Cuong shared impressive information about the outstanding development of Nanning with GRDP growth in 2023 reaching 621 billion Yuan and is gradually becoming an important global center of energy battery production and advanced manufacturing. In particular, the Mayor of Nam Ninh emphasized that the inauguration of the Binh Luc Canal in the near future will be a historic milestone, creating a new river-sea transport corridor, opening up breakthrough opportunities for Nan Ninh to connect more deeply with Hai Phong port and the ASEAN market.
On that basis, Nam Ninh proposed that the two cities need to strengthen focused cooperation in 5 areas including maritime transport logistics, artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, smart healthcare and continue to promote educational exchanges and cross-border tourism.
>Regarding cooperation proposals in the field of high technology, Chairman of the City People's Committee Do Thanh Trung assigned the Department of Health, the Department of Science and Technology and related units to proactively exchange and learn from Nam Ninh's experience in building smart cities and applying AI to soon transform memoranda of understanding into specific products.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the City People's Committee also respectfully thanked Nanning for its support in cultural exchange activities at the Red Phoenix Flower Festival and accepted the invitation to attend the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) taking place next September in Nanning.
