Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc meets with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive developments of the extensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Japan. The two leaders agreed to continue implementing measures to develop the cooperative relationship more deeply and substantially in the coming time.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated Japan's active and effective support for Vietnam in socio-economic development, especially in supporting Vietnam to enhance competitiveness, improve the investment environment, and respond to climate change.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested that Japan continue to prioritize ODA, expand investment, promote trade with Vietnam, and continue to support Vietnam in accessing IDA preferential capital from the World Bank after 2017.

The Japanese Prime Minister affirmed that in the coming time, Japan will continue to support Vietnam's sustainable development; will continue to prioritize ODA resources for Vietnam, including ODA for 2 projects to respond to climate change and develop infrastructure of Hoa Lac High-Tech Park; Encourage and create favorable conditions for Japanese businesses, especially those applying high technology, to invest in Vietnam.

Exchanging about the international and regional situation, the two leaders expressed concern about recent complicated developments in the region; Emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace, security, and cooperation in the East Sea, upholding the rule of law, resolving disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; agreed that the two countries need to strengthen cooperation to strive for the above goals.

At the meeting between Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, the two leaders affirmed that they value the Vietnam-New Zealand Comprehensive Partnership; agreed to continue to cooperate closely to exploit the potential of cooperation, bringing the relationship between the two countries to develop more deeply and effectively in the coming time.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc proposed that the two sides need to effectively promote existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, develop specific plans to implement comprehensive partnership in all fields in the next 3-5 years, with priority given to promoting economic-trade-investment cooperation.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam always creates favorable conditions for New Zealand businesses to invest in Vietnam; We suggest that New Zealand continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese agricultural products. In the immediate future, specialty fruit products such as rambutan, star apple, grapefruit... will soon be available in the New Zealand market; proposed that New Zealand relax regulations on quarantine and food safety for Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products entering New Zealand.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also asked New Zealand to continue supporting Vietnam in developing high-quality human resources, increasing educational scholarships, increasing the number of Vietnamese workers participating in the Working Holiday Program in New Zealand... The Prime Minister hoped that New Zealand would share experiences in sustainable agricultural development, support Vietnam in climate change adaptation activities, and sustainable management and use of natural resources.

Prime Minister John Key affirmed that New Zealand will cooperate closely with Vietnam, especially in economics, trade and investment in the context that the two countries are both members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP). Vietnam has suitable climatic conditions for strong agricultural development and New Zealand is ready to support Vietnam in both experience and technology to develop the food, agricultural processing and dairy industries. Prime Minister John Key noted requests for market access for Vietnamese fruit and agricultural products and promised to consider them actively.

Regarding regional issues, the two leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, security and cooperation in the East Sea; resolve disputes by peaceful means, on the basis of respect for international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; agreed to continue to coordinate and promote efforts to achieve the above goals.
