Implementing Decision No. 890/QD-BCT dated March 17, 2017 of the Minister of Industry and Trade on approving the content and estimates of specific trade promotion tasks for rice products, the Import-Export Department has presided over and coordinated with the Asia-Africa Market Department and the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria to organize a trade promotion delegation. rice in Abidjan city, Ivory Coast from December 10-15, 2017.

The delegation came to work at the Ivory Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry
During their time working in Ivory Coast, the Vietnamese delegation had working sessions with the Ministry of Trade, Crafts and Promotion of Small Medium Enterprises, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ivory Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry. At the meetings, the two sides discussed the foreign trade situation of each country in general and rice production and trading policies in particular.
Each year, Ivory Coast consumes about 1.5 million tons of rice, of which 900,000 tons must be imported, mainly from Thailand, Vietnam and India. Currently, rice is the basic food of people, especially in big cities. In order to reduce dependence on food imports, the Government of Ivory Coast decided to spend 3.9 billion USD on the agricultural sector from 2012 to 2015 to achieve a growth rate of 8.9% to ensure food security in Ivory Coast and contribute significantly to food security of the West African sub-region. Currently, Ivory Coast is striving to be self-sufficient in food by 2018. However, achieving this goal is not easy because investment in developing wet rice in Ivory Coast is quite expensive, productivity is low, and rice production in this West African country still depends mainly on rainwater.
The Vietnamese delegation visited the rice warehouse of an import enterprise
In 2016, Vietnam exported 190,961 tons of rice to Ivory Coast, with a turnover of 91.15 million USD. In the first 11 months of 2017, our country's rice exports to this market reached 207,552 tons, worth 92.24 million USD. On December 13, the Vietnamese delegation coordinated with the Ivory Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry to organize a business conference with the participation of about 80 delegates from both sides. At the conference, Vice Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed his desire to sign a cooperation agreement with VCCI Vietnam. On this occasion, a number of businesses have found partners and signed rice purchase and sale contracts.
