(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of May 28, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Thanh received and worked with Mr. Afonso Vieira, Portuguese Consul in Ho Chi Minh City, who visited and learned about the investment environment in Hai Phong city. Accompanying him was Mr. Tiago Macedo, Chairman of the Vietnam - Portugal Chamber of Commerce.
In a warm and open atmosphere, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Thanh informed the Consul of some outstanding features of the city as well as the results achieved in socio-economic development. The Vice Chairman said that Hai Phong is the locality with the largest seaport in the North with more than 100 years of history and has been named on the world's maritime map; The city fully converges 5 types of transportation, including: road, inland waterway, aviation, railway and maritime; In recent years, Hai Phong has been considered an attractive destination for many large corporations and foreign investors... the city currently has many mechanisms to preferentially support businesses.
At the meeting, Mr. Afonso Vieira highly appreciated Hai Phong as a dynamic, developing city. He said that during this working visit to the city, the delegation wants to learn and promote cooperation in the fields of trade, real estate investment environment, education, tourism and culture... of which Hai Phong is a top priority of the Vietnam - Portugal Chamber of Commerce. Emphasizing the positive developments in the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in recent times, he also hoped that the two sides would strive to increase trade turnover from the current 350 million USD to 1 billion USD by 2020.
The Portuguese Consul respectfully thanked the good feelings that the city's leaders have given, and affirmed that today's working visit will be a favorable opportunity to contribute to promoting cooperation between the two sides, opening a new stage of development in the relationship between the two countries in general and with Hai Phong city in particular.
