On May 26, 2016, the World Bank approved additional financing worth 119 million USD for the Water Supply and Vietnam Wastewater Treatment aims to cope with disastersmajor method in urban development, with a focus on ensuring that clean water and wastewater treatment needs are met in some urban areas in Vietnam.
The additional financial amount for the Project will mainly be used for a wastewater treatment and drainage subproject in Binh Duong province. At the same time, this additional funding will also be used to offset increased costs due to the appreciation of the US dollar, providing technical support to the Ministry of Construction in preparing a new investment project on water supply in the Mekong Delta region.
With this grant, an additional 65,872 households with 450,382 people will be connected to clean water sources and 312,051 urban residents will benefit from improved sanitation conditions. The achievements in the initial project will be further consolidated and sustained and more people in Binh Duong, the South of Vietnam will have better wastewater treatment and drainage systems.
The additional funding includes a credit worth 50 million USD from IDA (International Development Association) - a preferential capital source of the World Bank Group of Organizations for low-income countries and a loan worth 69 million USD from IBRD (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) - a loan source of the World Bank Group of Organizations for middle-income countries./.
