On the afternoon of May 12, Component B - Hai Phong International Gateway Port construction investment project invested by Saigon New Cang Corporation LLC in partnership with Japanese Molnykit., Ltd., was started in Cat Hai district, Hai Phong City.
The project has a total investment of 321 million USD, implemented on an area of 57 hectares. In this component, the investor will invest in building 02 container ports with a total length of 750m and road works, technical infrastructure, and synchronous equipment to receive container ships, general ships with a tonnage of up to 50,000 DWT with full load and ships of 100,000 DWT with reduced load. According to the construction plan, the project will be completed in the first quarter of 2018.
Previously, according to official dispatch No. 6751/VPCP-QHQT dated September 22, 2010 of the Government Office, this component was implemented by a Japanese company in joint venture with Vietnam Maritime Corporation. However, on January 4, 2013, the Government Office issued Official Dispatch No. 106/VPCP-KTN on the plan to implement Component B of the Hai Phong International Gateway Port Construction Investment Project, which assigned the task to Saigon Newport Corporation to participate in the joint venture on behalf of Vietnam Maritime Corporation.

Assessing the importance of the Lach Huyen International Gateway Port project, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that this is a project that the Government pays special attention to with the expectation that it will create motivation for the take-off of Hai Phong city as well as the Northern economic region.
“The two launch container terminals under Component B of the Hai Phong International Gateway Port Project implemented by the joint venture between Saigon New Port Corporation and Molnykit partner from Japan continue to be evidence of the close connection between the two countries, the two governments, the two enterprises Vietnam and Japan Ban", Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assessed.
This was also reaffirmed by Mr. Fukada Hiroshi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, in his speech at the ceremony.
The Prime Minister also believes that this cooperation will be successful with the experience and discipline from Japan and the seaport investment and exploitation experience of Tan Cang - a typical defense and security enterprise of the military and for many years the leading bird of the container port exploitation industry in Vietnam.
In order for this container port to be completed and put into operation in sync with component A in 2018, the Prime Minister requested that the investor, along with consulting units and contractors of the project must seriously implement contractual commitments and according to the provisions of Vietnamese law. At the same time, the Ministry of Transport, Hai Phong city and related agencies must also create favorable conditions for investors to implement the project and promptly assist in resolving arising problems.
Sharing about the Project, Mr. Nguyen Dang Nghiem, General Director of Saigon Newport Corporation affirmed: "The investment in this component is an opportunity for the Corporation to develop a deep-water port system, in accordance with the development strategy to the North, creating a connection point for Tan Cang's logistics service supply chain. And this will also be the first deep-water port in the North to receive container ships and general ships available at Tan Cang. 10,000 DWT operating on long-distance shipping routes.
Currently, component A of the Lach Huyen Port project is also being urgently implemented to meet schedule and be completed by the end of 2017. With a total investment of more than 25,000 billion VND, equal to Japanese ODA and Government capital, the Lach Huyen International Gateway Port Project in Hai Phong is expected to be a bridge to expand the door of trade in the Northern region of our country with the world, creating a premise for the development of the Lach Huyen Port Project in Hai Phong. economic - social development of the Northeast region in particular, as well as the entire North in general.
“When Lach Huyen Port is put into operation, import and export goods of the Northern region can go directly to the European and American markets (no longer having to transit through ports in regions such as Singapore and Hong Kong", Mr. Le Van Thanh, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, emphasized at the groundbreaking ceremony.
Also during the ceremony, Saigon New Port Corporation donated 500 million VND to support the Fund for the Poor for Cat Hai district.
