According to data from the Foreign Investment Department, accumulated until April 2015, Hai Phong city has 470 valid FDI projects, total registered investment capitalsigned 11.38 billion USD, ranking 6th out of 63 provinces and cities in the country (including the offshore oil and gas area). In particular, the city's processing and manufacturing industry alone has attracted 318 projects with 7.15 billion USD (accounting for 63% of total FDI capital in Hai Phong).
The city's largest FDI project up to this point, also in the field of processing and manufacturing industry, is the LG Electronic Vietnam Hai Phong Co., Ltd. project, licensed on September 6, 2013. The total project investment capital is up to 1.5 billion USD invested by Korean investor LG Electronics INC. Projects for manufacturing and assembling high-tech electrical and electronic products, color TVs, smart TVs, air conditioners, washing machines...
Currently, Japan is the country pouring the most capital into this port city with 124 projects, total registered investment capital of up to 3.57 billion USD.
In the first 4 months of 2015 alone, the city has attracted 18 new projects and 10 capital increase projects with a total of 292.1 million USD in new and increased capital, ranking 3/40 in terms of foreign investment in the first 4 months of 2015.
In the past 3 years, Hai Phong has continuously been in the top 5 provinces and cities in the country in attracting foreign direct investment. To achieve the above results, the city set the goal of attracting investors into industries that rely on technology, create high added value, save raw materials, fuel... which will be the trend of Hai Phong in the near future. To create a highly competitive investment environment and sustainable production development, Hai Phong has introduced a set of city development indicators and a list of projects that encourage and discourage investment. Projects with low added value and negative impacts on the environment will be rejected.
