(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of May 24, at the City Convention Center, comrade Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee received and worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation led by comrade Le Hoai Trung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Also attending were Mr. Pham Van Moi, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board and representatives of leaders of relevant departments, branches and units. Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung quickly informed the city's socio-economic and investment situation to the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Currently, the city still maintains a strong socio-economic development rate, the GDP index reaches 14-15%, and other indexes all increased by over 20% compared to previous years. The city's traffic connection is very good with surrounding areas and northern provinces, attracting many domestic and foreign investors; Currently, the city has achieved and exceeded 9 major economic targets set by the Resolution of the 15th Congress of the City Party Committee for 2020.
The city has cooperative relationships with important partners in Northeast Asia such as Korea, Japan, and China. Regarding the situation of attracting investment capital from these partners, the Korean side currently has 52 FDI projects with 6.7 billion USD, focusing on industrial production; The city is strengthening the implementation of ODA projects with Japan such as: Rainwater, wastewater and solid waste drainage project, International gateway port project and An Duong Water Plant, currently attracting 142 FDI projects from Japan with a capital of 5 billion USD. China's FDI projects invested 3.2 billion USD, of which industrial production accounted for 65% of projects and 76% of investment capital; Chinese investors also invest in the infrastructure of Do Son and An Duong Industrial Parks. In the coming time, the city will focus on promoting cooperation with Japan, Korea, China, the United States and expanding relationships with Australia, countries in the European Union and the Middle East region. The city will implement it according to the direction of the Central Party, focusing on promoting regional connectivity to attract investment from businesses. Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung also proposed to the Working Group to soon promote the construction of the Hanoi - Hai Phong - Lao Cai railway line to promote the effectiveness of the deep-water port in Hai Phong, while promoting trade and socio-economic development; Petition the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help and support the city in submitting to UNESCO for recognition of the Ha Long - Cat Ba world heritage site to attract local tourism. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung congratulated the Party Committee, government and people of Hai Phong in recent years on many ways to promote cooperation and achieve many achievements in socio-economic development. The Deputy Minister acknowledged that Hai Phong has a very special and important position in connecting and socio-economic development of Vietnam with countries around the world, and hoped that the city would continue to support the country's foreign affairs in the coming time. The Deputy Minister said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attaches great importance to promoting local integration and is ready to coordinate and support the city's recommendations.
Regarding the city's recommendations, the Deputy Minister recommended that the city soon have a policy and work and discuss with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on requesting UNESCO to recognize Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago as a world heritage site. In addition, the city will soon invite experts to advise on conditions and continue to complete the work of handling environmental sanitation issues, wastewater treatment... to meet UNESCO world heritage site standards.
