(Haiphong.gov.vn) - Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho has just had an inspection session and heard a report on the implementation of combating illegal, unreported and unregulated seafood exploitation (anti-IUU fishing) at Ngoc Hai Fishing Port, Do Son district.

At the working session, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho acknowledged the efforts of agencies and localities in implementing tasks and solutions to combat IUU fishing.
However, according to the Vice President, the current implementation has not yet met the requirements to ensure the removal of the EC's "Yellow Card" for Vietnam's exported seafood and the city's seafood development. The sense of responsibility of some units and individuals is not high, and the coordination in performing tasks of some units is still limited. Faced with the above situation, the Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the City Departments, branches, branches and coastal districts to continue to actively and urgently implement tasks and solutions on combating IUU exploitation that have been directed and issued by the City People's Committee.
The Vice President assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to urgently direct and consolidate the Representative Office for inspection, examination and control of fisheries at Ngoc Hai Fishing Port, clearly stating the responsibilities of each individual participant.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development presided over and coordinated with the City Border Guard Command and districts to comprehensively review the number and operating status of fishing vessels in the city. In the immediate future, in July 2021, focus on reviewing fishing vessels with the largest length from 15m or more and fishing vessels with the largest length from 6m to 15m to report to the City People's Committee. Along with that, strengthen the inspection, guidance and supervision of People's Committees of districts with fishing ports, fishing wharves, and storm shelters to strictly comply with the provisions of law on announcement of fishing ports, fisheries and related issues. Strictly manage fishing vessels departing and entering the port and crew members upon departure.
The Vice Chairman also proposed that the City Border Guard Command continue to strengthen propaganda and dissemination of fisheries laws, strictly handle violations according to the authority and provisions of the law, in addition to clearly assigning responsibilities of officers and soldiers of Border Guard Stations in implementing the task of combating IUU fishing.
