After 10 years of preparation, the Cat Ba archipelago and Cat Hai district (Hai Phong city) were officially recognized by UNESCO as a world natural heritage site in Ha Long Bay - [...]

Cat Ba archipelago belongs to Cat Hai District (Hai Phong City) including 367 large and small islands located on an area of about 300 km², in the middle of the Gulf of Tonkin, about 30 km from the center of Hai Phong City, about 140 km from Hanoi City.
Cat Ba Island is the largest island, with an area of 153 km², the third largest island in Vietnam after Phu Quoc and Cai Bau, with the highest mountain peak of up to 331m. This is a submerged tropical karst terrain area, with a unique landscape similar to Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh). The islands are single or clustered karst peaks or towers, with steep cliffs floating above the clear blue sea. On Cat Ba island there are many beautiful caves and karst valleys such as Trung Trang, Hung Son, Gia Luan, Tai Lai (now called Viet Hai)...
The total area of Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve is more than 26,000 hectares, including Cat Ba National Park and more than half of the area of Lan Ha Bay, with 2 core zones (strict conservation and no human impact), 2 buffer zones (allowing limited economic development but combined with conservation) and 2 transition zones (economic development).
One of the famous landmarks that attracts foreign and domestic tourists to Cat Ba island is Lan Ha Bay. This is one of the most beautiful bays in the world, located in the east of Cat Ba Island and is an adjacent bridge between Cat Ba Island and Ha Long Bay.
The area of the bay is over 7,000 hectares with more than 400 large and small islands and 139 small sandy beaches surrounding it, however, of which more than 5,400 hectares are under the management of the World Biosphere Reserve recognized by UNESCO as Cat Ba National Park.

With a diverse system of flora and fauna and caves, Cat Ba National Park becomes an interesting tourist destination for tourists. In addition to plant species such as: bamboo leaves, kim Giao leaves, flower leaves, chestnuts, earthworms, bamboo chopsticks, honey worms..., Cat Ba National Park has thousands of ancient lychee trees with a trunk circumference that few people can hug.
