(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of September 13, the Center for Social Sciences and Humanities of Hai Phong city in collaboration with the Vietnam Institute of Economics and the Friedrich Naurmann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany in Vietnam organized a workshop with the topic "Improving access to green credit for Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises" led by Dr. Pham Hung Tien, Acting Director of the Friedrich Naurmann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany in Vietnam chaired the workshop. Attending were representatives of leaders: departments, branches, banks, credit institutions, associations, and representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises in the city.
Accordingly, Green Credit are credits supported by banks with preferential interest rates for production and business projects that do not pose risks or are intended to protect the environment. The "Green Credit" program in Vietnam, especially after the Governor of the State Bank issued Decision No. 1604/QD-NHNN dated August 7, 2018, approving the Green Bank Development Project in Vietnam, has not only brought great benefits in terms of economic development, but also contributed to improving the quality of people's lives and protecting the environment.
At the Conference, delegates shared research results on the situation of green credit deployment in Vietnam in recent times, and practical experiences on green credit in Hai Phong city.

Speaking at the Conference, Dr. Pham Hung Tien, Acting Director of the Friedrich Naurmann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany in Vietnam emphasized: Hai Phong is the country's major economic center with a rapidly increasing annual GDP and an increasingly modern and complete urban appearance. Since 2014, to develop a green, sustainable economy, the city has chosen a comprehensive, multi-sector, multi-sector approach and achieved success in the process of converting a resource-intensive economic growth model to a number of more sustainable growth models, as well as ensuring a balance between socio-economic priorities and environmental protection.
However, local mobilization sources have not met loan needs, leading to the need to arrange coordinated capital from superior commercial banks and capital sources from other financial and monetary institutions; Investing and lending in Green Economy fields, such as Organic Agriculture, Waste Treatment and Processing, High-tech Construction Materials... often encounter high risks and lack effective production and business models. To support access to Green credit for businesses, world experience is to create and develop credit channels through macro-financial institutions; In which it is necessary to change legal regulations in the direction of supporting and encouraging macro-financial institutions to expand their professional activities.towards commercialization; Increase access to customers who are small, medium and micro enterprises, allowing mobilization of resources from society, especially the private and foreign sectors. This conference aims to propose proposals to improve green credit policy.
