On the evening of May 13, at the Political and Administrative Center Square of the North Cam River New Urban Area, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city solemnly held the 70th Anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13, 1955 - May 13, 2025), received the title "Heroic City" and opened the Red Poinciana Festival - Hai Phong 2025 with the theme "Hai Phong - 70 years of belief and desire to excel".

Hai Phong promotes tradition, steadily moves forward
Reading a speech at the Anniversary Ceremony, City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau emphasized: After 70 years of construction and development, from an urban area devastated by war, Hai Phong has risen to become the leading economic, cultural, science - technology and service center in the country. In 2024, Hai Phong ranks 5th in terms of economic scale, the only locality to maintain double-digit growth for a decade. The city ranks 3rd in state budget revenue, 2nd in FDI attraction and leads the country in the following indicators: competitiveness, administrative reform, people's satisfaction and provincial green index. The fields of culture, society, education, and health have many positive changes. Hai Phong has no more poor households and is a pioneer in social security policies such as100% tuition exemption for students, support for vocational training, care for meritorious people and disadvantaged groups.
Comrade Secretary of the City Party Committee affirmed that Hai Phong's proud achievements today are the result of the wise leadership of the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the Government, and the support of departments, ministries, branches and localities. It is also the crystallization of the glorious cultural and revolutionary tradition, the spirit of solidarity, creativity and aspiration for advancement of the Party Committee, government, army and people of the city through the ages. The Party Committee, government and people of Hai Phong always remember and deeply appreciate the contributions of generations of leaders, officers, soldiers, people and the business community who have joined forces and united to build and develop the city.
>Entering a new stage of development, Hai Phong clearly defines its role and responsibility in the process of industrialization and modernization of the country. The city aims to reach out to the region, becoming a modern international seaport city, a leading economic, educational, science and technology center.
With the viewpoint of "people are the root", Hai Phong implements four strategic focuses, which are: Building a strong and effective Party and political system, attracting talents, creating a modern and attractive living environment for experts, intellectuals and workers; Promoting economic growth associated with innovating development models, taking science - technology, digital transformation and green transformation as the driving force; Developing strategic infrastructure such as seaports, airports, high-speed railways, towards the country's leading industrial and logistics center; Developing culture and society in harmony with the economy, building a model of modern socialism with a democratic, fair and civilized society; People's lives are prosperous and happy; Strengthen national defense and securityBuild a regular, elite and modern armed force; maintain social order and safety, develop Bach Long Vi into an economic and defense center in the Northern Sea region.
At the Celebration, recognizing the contributions of the Party Committee, Government and People of Hai Phong City in the cause of building socialism and protecting the Fatherland, the Party and State decided to confer the State honorary title "Heroic City" to the Party Committee, Government and People of Hai Phong City.
Hai Phong takes advantage of opportunities and makes breakthroughs in a new stage of development
Speaking at the Celebration, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Luong Cuong congratulated and appreciated the achievements, results and great contributions in the fight for national independence; as well as in the work of reforming, building, developing the country and firmly protecting the Socialist Fatherland of Vietnam by the Party Committee, government, people and armed forces of Hai Phong city over the past 70 years. Based on the great and comprehensive achievements after 70 years of liberation, Hai Phong has full conditions and opportunities to rise to become a leading city in the cause of industrialization and modernization, on par with typical Asian cities; contributing to the whole country entering an era of rapid, sustainable and prosperous development.
The President proposed that the Party Committee, government, army and people of the city need to focus on performing well a number of key tasks: Building a strong, streamlined and effective Party and political system; preventing corruption and negativity; develop a team of quality staff; Complete planning, expand development space towards green, modern urban areas, riverside and coastal economic development; Invest heavily in digital infrastructure, science and technology, innovation, promote startups and implement three strategic breakthroughs; Mobilize maximum resources for socio-economic development, promote administrative reform, improve the investment environment, and ensure security; and strengthen national defense and security, maintain stability for rapid and sustainable development.
Right after the Celebration is a special art program with the theme "Hai Phong - 70 years of faith and desire to excel" to open the Red Poinciana Festival - Hai Phong 2025, with the participation of more than 1,000 professional and amateur artists and actors.

The art program is elaborately choreographed with three impressive scenes: "Hai Phong - spiritual land, talented people", "The epic song Trung Dung - Quyet to win" and "Hai Phong - faith and desire to rise". Each part is a vivid slice of the history, present and future aspirations of the Port city, expressed through the language of music, dance and real-life theater.
The program brings together many famous artists such as Tung Duong, Vu Thang Loi, Soobin Hoang Son, Phuong Linh, Hoang Bach, Anh Tu, Meritorious Artist Khanh Hoa, Lam Bao Ngoc... Songs praising the Party, Uncle Ho and the city of Hai Phong such as An epic poem of Hai Phong, Echoing Uncle Ho's voice in the middle of autumn in the Port, My Hometown Harbor, Hai My Childhood Room… was performed with emotion, contributing to arousing pride and the spirit of love for one's homeland in the hearts of the audience.
