This is a project that has had its investment policy approved by the Government through Decision No. 299/QD-TTg dated March 4, 2021 and is also a project in the list of 1A ports prioritized for infrastructure development of the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system in the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050.
According to information received, Hateco Group Joint Stock Company will invest over VND 6,425 billion to build a seaport complex to receive, receive and store goods with a total area of nearly 50 hectares at Lach Huyen international port area located on Cat Hai island, Cat Hai district, Hai Phong city.
This complex includes: 2 seaports with a total wharf length of 750m, capable of receiving container ships with a tonnage of up to 100,000 DWT (equivalent to a carrying capacity of 8,000 Teus); 1 barge wharf can receive ships and barges with a carrying capacity of 48 Teus to serve the connection and two-way transport of goods from seaports to localities by inland waterway, and at the same time build a warehouse system to store and separate goods and post-port logistics services...
According to the investor's calculations, when put into operation these two ports can reach a capacity of 25-27 million tons of goods/year and create more than 600 jobs for workers.
Mr. Hoang Dinh Tuan, General Director of Hateco Group Joint Stock Company, said that developing the marine economy, with priority investment in developing the seaport industry and logistics services, has been identified by Hateco as a strategic direction. With this project, Hateco determines that it is a long-term investment, an investment to exploit and operate, not simply a financial investment deal, so Hateco will focus resources to soon put the project into operation in 2025.
It is known that in Hai Phong there are currently over 40 seaports, however there are not many seaports capable of receiving ships of 100,000 DWT (full load) or more. Therefore, Hateco's investment in the deep-sea port segment is considered by many experts to be in line with the trend, because the farther it goes, the deeper the port will be to accommodate large ships, running long sea routes, then goods will be collected directly without having to go through transshipment ports, saving logistics costs and channel dredging costs compared to ports located deeper inland, and at the same time will increase docking fees due to regulations: the larger the ship, the higher the fee.
In addition, the strong development of economic activities in the Northern provinces has promoted the growth of trade in goods, so the output of goods through Hai Phong seaport area always grows strongly every year. According to the Hai Phong City Statistics Department, in 2019 the output of goods through this area reached 130 million tons, but by 2020 this number has exceeded nearly 143 million tons. Although the Covid-19 pandemic has adversely affected economic activities, in the first 8 months of 2021, the output of goods through Hai Phong seaport area still reached 93.2 million tons, an increase of 9.26% over the same period in 2020.
According to Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, with its current potential, Hai Phong seaport system has increasingly affirmed its role and position as an important link in the global maritime cargo supply chain.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Trung Kien, Head of Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board, said that having two more deep-water ports at Lach Huyen international port will open up more direct shipping routes to major markets such as the US, Europe... will help goods traded between Vietnam and the world reach the market faster and more effectively, thereby promoting the development of the economy and improving the industry's competitiveness. national maritime transport, and at the same time contribute to the process of building and developing Hai Phong into an international logistics service center.
