On the afternoon of October 24, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Anh Quan received and worked with the Delegation of the European Business Association in Vietnam (EuroCham) led by President Bruno Jaspaert, to promote cooperation and investment opportunities between Hai Phong and the European business community.
Pleased to welcome the delegation, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Anh Quan briefly introduced the potential, advantages and achievements of Hai Phong's socio-economic development in recent times.
From July 1, 2025, Hai Phong city will be established on the basis of merging Hai Duong province and Hai Phong city, with an area of nearly 3,200 km², a population of over 4.6 million people, and an economic scale that ranks third in the country. In the new context, Hai Phong possesses large development space, outstanding advantages in synchronous transportation infrastructure, international seaports and industrial parks - key economic zones.
Hai Phong currently has 5 types of transportation: road, railway, inland waterway, sea and air; with a deep-water port system that can accommodate ships of over 200,000 tons, directly connecting to European and American ports; Together with Cat Bi International Airport, it can accommodate the world's largest aircraft.
The city identifies three economic pillars including: Industry - high technology, Seaport - logistics, and Tourism - trade. In 2024, the GRDP growth rate will reach 11%, ranking third in the country and leading in the Red River Delta, the 10th consecutive year of double-digit growth. Hai Phong also led the country for the first time in all four indexes: PCI, PAR Index, SIPAS and PGI, affirming an open and effective investment and business environment.
Not only is it an industrial and logistics center, Hai Phong is also a land rich in cultural and historical traditions, with two UNESCO heritage sites: Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Islands and the Con Son - Vinh Nghiem - Yen Tu relic and landscape complex, along with many famous tourist attractions and unique cuisine.
Currently, the city has two large economic zones (Dinh Vu - Cat Hai and the southern coastal area), which are implementing a 6,300-hectare Free Trade Zone with 17 specific policy mechanisms, a 5,300-hectare Specialized Economic Zone, and 43 industrial zones with a total area of more than 12,000 hectares.
Hai Phong currently attracts more than 1,740 FDI projects with a total investment capital of over 50 billion USD, including 60 projects from Europe with a total capital of 1.7 billion USD. Typical projects of Belgian, German and Dutch enterprises are: DEEP C Industrial Park (726 million USD), Tesa Tape Factory (91 million USD), Damen Song Cam Shipyard (89 million USD).

EuroCham President Bruno Jaspaert expressed his impression of Hai Phong's socio-economic development speed, saying that the cooperation between Europe - Vietnam in general and Europe - Hai Phong in particular is developing well. He said European businesses want to learn more about investment opportunities in Hai Phong after the merger, especially preferential policies in the Free Trade Zone that the city is implementing./.
