On July 21, the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) announced the results of the quarterly Business Environment Index survey II of 2016. The index reached 77, showing a strong reactionPositive feedback from EuroCham member business community towards the business environment in Vietnam.
Specifically, 66.7% of businesses responded "very good" and "good", only 12.5% responded "not good" and "very bad" when surveyed to evaluate the business situation in the second quarter of 2016. 63.6% of businesses surveyed said that business prospects in the next quarter will be "good" and "very good".
49% of businesses surveyed predict their number of orders or revenue will increase slightly in the next quarter. 15.6% of them are even more optimistic, expecting a significant increase in revenue in the next quarter. Therefore, when asked about investment plans and staff development, businesses responded very positively and consistently. Specifically, 43.8% of businesses responded that they will increase investment, while 43.7% plan to increase the number of employees.
Regarding the macroeconomic outlook for Vietnam in the next quarter, according to the comments of businesses participating in the survey, macroeconomic stability is likely to continue, with 56.3% responding as "stable and improving", 9.4% of businesses participating in the survey predicting the macroeconomy will decline and 34.4% saying it will not change.
Mr. Michael Behrens, Chairman of EuroCham commented: "The results for the second quarter of 2016 show positive expectations for the near future and satisfaction relative to the current situation. EuroCham member enterprises maintain a positive view towards the Vietnamese market and domestic business activities. This is a good sign for the implementation of the European Union (EU)-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, which is expected to be strongly promoted business and investment activities of European enterprises".
This survey was conducted for 883 businesses that are members of EuroCham before the UK referendum on whether to continue being a member or leave the EU (June 23), so the survey results are not related to this event./.
