The overall goal of the ASEAN Community is to build the Association into a deeper and more binding intergovernmental cooperation organization on the legal basis of the ASEAN Charter; but it is not a supranational organization and is not closed but still expands cooperation with outside countries.
Building the ASEAN Community is a continuous and long-term process, in which the formation of the 2015 ASEAN Community is an important milestone in the ASEAN integration process and the formation of this community has great significance, specifically reflecting the growth of ASEAN after 48 years of formation and development to become a closely linked community on all three pillars: Politics-security, economics and culture-society, with the position position is increasingly high in both the region and the world.
The ASEAN Community also demonstrates the common interests, awareness, vision as well as the will and political determination of member countries on the need to strengthen connectivity at a higher level to promptly respond and adapt to opportunities and challenges facing the region; Bringing ASEAN officially into a politically cohesive, economically linked community sharing social responsibilities, creating an important foundation for ASEAN to continue to strengthen and deepen connections, bringing common benefits to all member countries.
ASEAN today is a peaceful region, a cohesive and unified economy with a gross domestic product (GDP) of 2,600 billion USD (an increase of 80% in the past 7 years), not only deeply integrated into the global security and economic structure, but also a dynamic region with many opportunities and great development prospects.
The formation of the ASEAN Community will continue to bring many practical benefits to people and member countries, such as creating favorable conditions for market access, reducing the cost of goods and services thanks to the elimination of tariffs, reducing unemployment rates, and facilitating travel.
