Forecasting the amount of goods through Hai Phong Ports by 2020 is 110 million tons, but by the end of 2019 the output has reached 130 million tons. This shows strong growth in Hai Phong port blocks, in which, inland ports and wharves alone, the amount of goods throughput doubled compared to 2018.

Many seaports exceed plan
General Director of Northern Maritime Safety Corporation Dong Trung Kien said that in 2019, the Hai Phong maritime pilot force was busy and recorded many successful marks. During April and May 2019, for the first time in the history of Hai Phong seaport, Hai Phong maritime pilots guided ships from 108,000 tons to more than 132,000 tons safely into Hai Phong International Container Port. Since then, ships of this size have operated regularly on the route. In addition to constantly investing in facilities at the ports, the ship channel entering Hai Phong seaport is guaranteed to have a deep depth, helping ships enter and exit cargo conveniently.
The flow meets standards, many customers come to visit, all seaports operate with high efficiency. 2019 is the first year many port enterprises completed their yearly plans ahead of schedule. In which, Hai Phong International Container Port - HICT (now Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Port Co., Ltd.) exceeded plan 1 month ahead, Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company exceeded plan 15 days ahead. Many other ICD seaport and inland port enterprises also completed exploitation output before December 20, 2019. Acting General Director of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company Cao Trung Ngoan said that by the end of December 16, 2019, Hai Phong Port achieved an output of 25.682 million tons of goods throughput, exceeding 2000 tons compared to the yearly plan, of whichContainer cargo reached 1,231 million teus, exceeding 500,000 teus compared to plan. Revenue and profit targets for 2019 were completed beyond plan. According to HICT leaders, in 2019, the port received about 320 ship trips with an average loading and unloading productivity of 80-100 moves/hour/ship. By the end of November, the port reached 350,000 teus containers, completing the yearly plan. Currently, the port welcomes 9 ships/week, including 2 trans-Pacific routes, 2 Indian routes, and 3 intra-Asia routes...
Evaluating this success, according to Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, in addition to the innovation in business activities of the port enterprises themselves, there is also the active support of competent agencies such as: Customs, Border Guard, Port Authority, quarantine... In addition, the control of ships on the channel is well implemented through the VTS system, limiting maritime accidents. Also according to Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, this year the number of ships entering the port did not increase much compared to 2018, but the number of large ships entering the port increased, accounting for about 20% of the total number of ships entering the port. Therefore, the number of containers increased.
Ports and inland wharfs are "bumper"
There has never been a year when the amount of goods passing through ports and inland wharfs has increased as much as in 2019, with nearly 40 million tons of goods passing through, doubling compared to 2018. 2019 is also the first year that nearly 200 ports and inland wharves in Hai Phong welcomed a "dizzying" increase in bulk goods and containerized goods. Typical ports are along Cam River, Van Uc, Lach Tray, Da Bach, and Thai River. Freight routes are also busier with river ships carrying bulk cargo up to the Northwest and river and sea vessels (SB) going down to the South.
According to the Department of Transport, the inland waterway system in the city has more than 30 river routes, the total length of the section flowing through Hai Phong is up to 500 km. In addition to forming hundreds of seaports, wharves, and yards along the river, Hai Phong inland waterway has formed two national inland freight corridors: Quang Ninh - Hai Phong - Viet Tri (corridor No. 1) and Quang Ninh - Hai Phong - Ninh Binh - Quang Binh (corridor No. 2). The process of transshipment and transportation has brought a large amount of goods to and through Hai Phong ports. From transportation and storage of goods at ports and inland wharves, road freight transport in Hai Phong is also busier than every year.
Success in 2019 at port blocks in the city not only brought growth in goods, revenue, and budget revenue, but also affirmed the favorable location and infrastructure of Hai Phong city. With 45 seaports and about 200 inland ports and wharves, along with more than 1,000 businesses operating in the field of logistics, transportation, import and export of goods to and from Hai Phong, promoting goods growth, creating opportunities for other localities to develop together such as: Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Hai Duong, Hanoi, Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa... That is the basis for entering 2020, the port and Logistics businesses, shipping agents... in the city focus on production and business, striving to handle 150 million tons of goods./.
In 2020, Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company will implement the project to build berths 3 and 4 at Lach Huyen with a total length of 750 m, 1 barge berth with a capacity of 100 - 160 teu, meeting the throughput of about 1.1 million teus/year. Total project investment is up to 7,000 billion VND and phase 1 will be completed in 2022, the entire project in 2025.
