On the afternoon of June 22, Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee, chaired a meeting and working session with the delegation from Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water), led by Mr. Han Seong Yong, Senior Vice President of K-Water, in charge of Green Infrastructure, to discuss and concretize strategic cooperation contents in the field of water resource management and smart urban infrastructure development. Also attending the working session were Mr. Tran Van Quan, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee, and leaders of several departments, agencies, and sectors of the city.
This working session is an important continuation immediately following the Memorandum of Understanding on smart urban and ecological infrastructure cooperation signed between the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority and K-Water in Korea earlier in June, affirming the city's determination to attract high-tech resources to serve sustainable development goals.
At the working session, Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee, expressed his pleasure to welcome the K-Water delegation to survey and implement specific cooperation steps in Hai Phong.
Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee, emphasized that Hai Phong is currently one of the largest industrial, service, and urban centers in the country. In particular, the city is focusing its efforts on promoting the development of technical infrastructure systems, expanding the scale of industrial parks and economic zones, and building the first Free Trade Zone model. This breakthrough comes with an urgent challenge of ensuring water security, optimizing industrial water supply and drainage systems, and operating ecological standard wastewater treatment infrastructure. The city highly appreciates K-Water's outstanding capabilities as a leading state-owned enterprise in Korea in the field of water resources with extensive operational experience. Therefore, the city leaders expect the companionship of an enterprise with international potential and reputation like K-Water to bring breakthrough solutions to the city.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee proposed that K-Water conduct a survey and re-evaluate the current status of the city's rivers and water sources, from which both sides would discuss solutions to improve water quality.
On behalf of the city leaders, the Chairman of the City People's Committee affirmed the local government's strong commitment to providing maximum support in terms of information, data, and all the most favorable conditions for K-Water to implement the steps of the plan development process. The Chairman of the City People's Committee also assigned specific tasks to the focal agencies to coordinate closely with K-Water in the research and implementation process, in a spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit.
Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee, expressed confidence that the cooperation between Hai Phong and K-Water will yield good results, not only helping Hai Phong become a smart water management city with sustainable development but also contributing to the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and South Korea.

A representative of the leadership of Korea Water Resources Corporation expressed impression at Hai Phong's dynamic development and thanked the city leaders for the solemn reception. K-Water proposed to coordinate with Hai Phong's functional agencies to implement advanced technological solutions based on big data, artificial intelligence, and digital twin simulation to optimize water supply and drainage systems, minimize natural disaster risks, and improve water environmental quality in the city. The two sides agreed to establish a specialized working group to exchange information, conduct field surveys, and finalize the implementation plan. K-Water is expected to submit the Master Plan for Hai Phong City's Water Resource Management in September after analyzing data combined with actual information collection surveys.
