Hai Phong and Kagawa province have many similarities as they are both coastal cities, focusing on developing high-tech industry, shipbuilding, and marine tourism.
On the afternoon of April 22, Comrade Do Thanh Trung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee received a courtesy visit to the delegation of Kagawa province (Japan) led by Mr. Ikeda Toyohito, Governor of the province, who visited and worked in Hai Phong.
Attending the meeting were Mr. Pham Van Thep, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board, and representatives of leaders of relevant departments, branches and units.
Speaking to welcome the working delegation of Kagawa province, Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Chairman of the City People's Committee, briefly introduced the potential, advantages as well as the strategic direction for developing Hai Phong's transportation system, including railways, airways and inland waterways. He emphasized that after merging with Hai Duong province from July 1, 2025, Hai Phong has more room to expand cooperation and development with international partners, including Japan.
Expressing his joy at the similarities between Hai Phong and Kagawa province as they are both coastal cities, Chairman of the City People's Committee Do Thanh Trung hoped that the two sides would continue to maintain regular exchanges and increase experience sharing. Currently, Kagawa province is coordinating with the People's Committee of Cat Hai special zone to implement the project "Reducing marine waste through the participation of people on Cat Ba island, Hai Phong city" sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). He expressed his hope that in the coming time, the two sides will promote more practical cooperation programs, especially in the fields of social security, environmental protection and community health care.
Appreciating the exchange of the Governor of Kagawa province about opening a direct flight connecting Kagawa province with localities of Vietnam, Chairman of the City People's Committee Do Thanh Trung said that this will be an important driving force to promote investment, trade and cultural exchange between Kagawa province and localities of Vietnam, including Hai Phong city. Hai Phong is always ready to accompany, share and actively contribute to strengthening friendly relations, promoting investment and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.
Mr. Ikeda Toyohito, Governor of Kagawa Province congratulated Mr. Do Thanh Trung on being elected by the People's Council of Hai Phong City as Chairman of the City People's Committee; At the same time, he expressed his confidence that as the head of the city government, he will continue to promote his leadership role, bringing Hai Phong to dynamic development and promoting increasingly strong cooperation between the two localities.
Expressing his joy at the friendly and effective cooperation between the two localities over the past time, Governor Ikeda Toyohito hoped that the city's leaders would soon arrange a working visit to Kagawa province to enhance understanding and expand cooperation, especially in the fields of industry, shipbuilding, marine tourism and cultural exchange.
After the business trip, the delegation will strengthen information connections, introduce local businesses and investors to learn about and expand operations in Hai Phong. Thereby contributing to promoting practical and effective cooperation between the two localities in the economic field.
